12. The figure shows a frustum of a right circular cone. The radii of its upper and 40 cm
lower base are 40 cm and 16 cm respectively. The height of the frustum is h cm

16. The shown circular dartboard with a square inscribed is used in a dart
game. The radius of the dartboard is 20 cm. Collin throws a dart at
random and the dart hits the dartboard.
(a) (i) Find the probability that the dart hits the shaded area. (3 marks)
(ii) If a similar dartboard of radius 30 cm is used, a student claims that the probability of hitting the
shaded area, provided that the dart hits the dartboard, is larger. State whether the claim is
correct with reason. (1 mark)
(b) In an amusement park, an identical dartboard is used in a game according to the following rules:
The fee for each throw : $10
Cash award in the following cases : Hitting the shaded region : $14
Hitting the square region : $7
Assume that Collin always hits the dartboard. Is it preferable for Collin to enter the game? Justify
your answer with calculation. (3 marks)
