STRIKE Is the act of hitting something with force with your hand or weapon.

In Arnis,
using stick/s as an extension of the hand is also the main weapon for striking. There are specific areas
in our body as targets for striking as shown in the figure

The 12 different target areas of human body and its reaction:

1 & 2 - Left and Right temple (kaliwa at kanang sintido) – fatal; can

cause internal hemorrhage in the Brain or skull fracture.

3 & 4 - Left and Right arm (kaliwa at kanang sintido) – can paralyze

the shoulder area or bone fracture.

5 - Stomach (tiyan) – fatal; can cause internal hemorrhage or

damage to internal organs.

6 & 7 - Left and Right chest (kaliwa at kanang dibdib) – painful and

make ribs breakable.

8 & 9 - Left and Right knee (kaliwa at kanang tuhod) – bone

fracture and dislocate joints.

10&11 - Left and Right eye (kaliwa at kanang mata) – serious

damage to blindness.

12 - Crown/Head (ulo) – fatal; can cause death


The 12 basic strikes in Arnis:

1. Left temple strike 2. Right temple strike

3. Left arm strike 4. Right arm strike

5. Stomach thrust 6. Left chest thrust


7. Right chest thrust 8. Left knee strike

9. Right knee strike 10. Left eye thrust


11. Right eye thrust 12. Crown strike
