Where in the World is the Philippines? (Part 1)

Objective:
After performing this activity, you should be able to describe the location of the Philippines
using latitude and longitude.

Materials needed:

Globes/Map

Procedure:

1. Study the globe that shows the imaginary lines. Answer the following questions then write your answer in a
manila paper.
Q1. In your own words, define Equator.
Q2. Describe the line of latitude.
Q3. Describe the line of longitude.
Q4. The globe does not show all lines of latitude. If you wish to find 50 0N, where should you look?
Q5. What is the starting point for longitude?
Q6. To the right of the Prime Meridian, the longitude is written this way: 15 0E, 30 0E and so on. To the left of
the Prime Meridian, the longitude is written as 15 0W, and so on. On your globe, find 1800. What does it
represent?
Q7. Not all lines of longitude are shown on a globe. If you want to find 20 0W, where should you look?
Q8. The location of a plce may be described by using latitude and longitude. To the nearest degree, what is
the latitude and longitude of Manila?
Q9. Compare to the size of the world, Manila is just a tiny spot, and its location may be described using a
pair of latitude and longitude. But how would you would you describe the location of an “area” such as the
whole Philippines?
