FRANCE AND ASEAN-ITALY DEVELOPMENT
PARTNERSHIP

This refers to your memorandum dated 12 October 2020 requesting for inputs
and comments on the abovementioned subject matter.

The successful candidature of France and Italy as ASEAN Development Partners

opens up many opportunities for the Indo-Pacific region. Moreover, the conferment of
such status also strengthens the principles of multilateralism, inclusivity, and
international cooperation among various countries even outside of Southeast Asian
nations.

As ASEAN Development Partners, the Association can strengthen cooperation

with France and Italy in key areas such as technology and innovation, sustainable
development and fight against climate change, disaster risk reduction, and trade and
investment.
