Human Rights are the basic rights available to all the human beings in this world. Once a person
is born on the earth, he/ she has some basic and fundamental rights which are known as human
rights in common parlance. However, these rights need to be acknowledged, protected, and
promoted against any potential violation or threat of violation. The present paper is designed
with the objective to cover the concept, philosophy and development of Human Rights, the
International Efforts to safeguard Human Rights, the role of Constitution, Legislations and
Judiciary in protecting the Human Rights in India and the Rights of
Marginalized Groups in India. The International Humanitarian Law, the Law relating to Armed
Conflicts, Prisoners of War and Non-international Armed Conflicts have also been included in
the paper.
The course has a weightage of 100 marks. 75 % of the marks will be covered by the End
Semester Examination: while 25 % will constitute internal assessment to be done by the
concerned instructor.
• End Semester Examination: There shall be requestions in the Question paper with two
from each unit. Students shall have to answer five questions in all, selecting one from
each unit.
• Internal Assessment: Students will be assessed and evaluated by the concerned
teacher during the entire semester at regular intervals. This will be done by employing a
wide range of methods including written tests, tutorials, term paper writing, presentations
etc. Attendance of the students will also form a part of the internal assessment.

Course Overview
Semester: Seventh
Credits: 4
The object of the course is to acquaint the students with the various stages involved in a
civil case. Essentially, this course will help train the students to draft plaints, written
statements, interlocutory applications, etc. involved in civil cases. This will be done by
critically studying the different provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. Besides, the
course aims to impart a comprehensive understanding of the application of different
principles of the Specific Relief Act; 1963.
(A) End Semester Examination: There shall be ten questions in the Question paper with
two from each unit. Students shall have to answer five questions in all, selecting one
from each unit.
(B) Internal Assessment: Students will be assessed and evaluated by the concerned teacher
during the entire semester at regular intervals. This will be done by employing a wide
range of methods including written tests, tutorials, term paper writing,
presentations etc. Attendance of the students will also form a part of the internal
assessment.

Lawyers are required to observe professional ethics. Professional ethics encompasses an ethical
code governing the conduct of persons engaged in the practice of law as well as persons engaged
in the legal sector. The objective of this course is to acquaint the students as to (a) legal profession in
India during - ancient, medieval and modem period, (b) professional ethics or duties, and (c) the
provisions of the Advocate Act, 1961. The purpose of the course shall also be to provide or to
enhance the practical knowledge of the students and to acquaint them with the link between
theory and practice.
