The factors that influence student's perception toward implementation of high order

thinking skills (HOTS) in reading comprehension tests

Abstract

High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) is a competence to analyze complex steps, while that
competence can apply to real-life problems. There are three levels of high order thinking skills
(HOTS) analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The purpose of this research is to find out the
factors that influence students' perception toward implementation of high order thinking skills
(HOTS) in reading comprehension. Because that factor will influence student perception about
the implementation HOTS in reading comprehension tests. The study will conduct by qualitative
research, the participant of this research is 45 students in SMAN 3 Solok using a questionnaire
and interview instrument. The researcher found example: first student knowledge and
comprehension of high order thinking skills itself. Second, students' competence in English
subjects. The last students experience about high order thinking skills (HOTS) activity in the
class. The result of this research is students with high frequency activity in teaching will make a
difference in students' perceptions. The suggestion for this study, the researcher hope school and
institution support teacher and student activity in implementing higher order thinking skills
(HOTS) in English subject.
