Safety symbols used in this manual :

This symbol is used to point out operating cycles that are important as
far as safety is concerned.
Improper handling during these cycles can cause serious injuries to
fingers, hands or other parts of the body and can cause also damages
to the turret itself or its accessories.

This symbol points out possible danger due to electricity.

1 - MODULAR DRIVEN TOOL DEVICE

The ODT-N/50 series modular driven tool device, has been developed strictly applying the Value Engineering
technique, taking benefits of design similarity, reduced number of components and common parts, for a lean me-
chanical design.

Still based on the original, patented and well known principle of “automatic engagement without additional de-
vices” of the previous series, the new design offers an upgraded product, using advanced technology and modern
solutions for the increased needs of CNC turning centers.

r No dead times thanks to:

– Automatic engagement/disengagement of the tenon type coupling, only with the turret movement, without any
additional device.
– Faster zero-setting positioning, directly managed by the motor/driver with high zero speed.

r Powerful : High speeds and transmittable torques.

r Advanced features :
– Standard range of coolant pressure up to 30 bar.
– Pressurizing air function for prevent external contamination.
– Centralized lubrication system for heavy duty cycle and/or extreme working conditions.

Working principle
The motor (A) through the gears (B), (B1) and D B1 B A
the ring (D) gives the movement to the power
intake(G), engaging the tenon (H) on the rota-
ting toolholder (L) in the working position.
The tenon (H), during the turret indexing, is
driven by a slot in the ODT-N housing in order
to be automatically engaged with the power
intake (G), previously oriented .

In the ODT-N/ series 50 the zero setting is ma-

naged directly by the servomotor, that must
be provided with “orientation function” by
the CNC.

Important : The motor driver enable must

always be “ON”, keeping the zero position to
allow the turret rotation.
If servomotor with brake is used, the driver
can be “disable” at the end of orientation, al-
ways keeping on the brake and the motor po-

sition control.

PRESSURIZING AIR SYSTEM

r PRESSURIZING AIR SYSTEM

The ODT-N/50 series has been preset with a “pressurizing function”, that can be used in order to prevent external agent
contamination in the rotary seal area of the power intake.
We suggest to use this function, mainly for machining on materials that create dust or sting-form chips.

PROCEDURE :
– Motor shaft and gear (446) diameters must be well cleaned.
Lubricate only using a small oil film, no grease or molybdenum.

– Fit the clamping unit (167) and the gear (446) on the motor shaft, according to the stated dimensions.

– Clamp gradually and uniformly the 5 screws M6, acting in continuous sequence, until the needed clamping torque CT = 12 Nm
is reached. (More consecutive clampings could be necessary).

– Before motor fitting on the ODT-N module, lubricate the motor gear (446) with grease ISOFLEX NBU 15, or compatible.

5. DIAGNOSTIC

ALARMS AND WARNINGS

The electronic unit constantly executes self-diagnosis and can signal alarms condition.
An alarm is present if READY is LOW and an ALPOSXX output is different from zero

Turret is in normal operation if READY= ON: in this case the ALPOSxx outputs give the code of the
current position.
When an alarm occours the READY = OFF: in this case ALPOSxx outputs give the alarm code in
binary format (ALPOS01= LSB).

Starting from FW 2.0 there is no more separation in group and subgroup.

Display:
A 7-segment display is available.

When the driver is in normal condition all the segments are blinking in sequence.
When the alarm is present, the display will show in sequence, A->(first alarm digit)-> (second alarm digit)

As example, the alarm 2.3 is

Alarm are stored and can be reset with EMERGENCY/RESET function.

Power off causes the reset of the active alarm.

A PC software is available to improve the stat-up procedure and troubleshooting.

Fault of electronic unit:

After recognizing the fault, the problem can be easily solved.
In case of electronic unit fault, it can be easily replaced.
