CONCLUSION AND DISSCUSSION:

The project points out the importance of regular maintenance, monitoring, and timely fault
identification for ensuring the optimum operation of the biogas plant. The faults and issues
identified, such as the digester tank leak, deteriorated electrical connections, mechanical
degradation, and faulty sensors, highlighted the consequences of prolonged periods of non-
operation and neglect.

Over time, electrical connections within the unit controlling section have deteriorated which
resulted in power supply problems, preventing the components from functioning properly.
Extended periods of non-operation led to wear and tear of various components within the unit
controlling section, PSA system, air compressor, and booster pump. Seals, gaskets, valves, or
other mechanical parts have degraded, causing leakage or decreased performance. There was
accumulation of dirt, debris, or other contaminants that caused restrict the flow of air or gas
within the systems. Proper lubrication is required for the smooth operation of mechanical
components such as pumps and compressors. There were faulty sensors and instrumentation
that resulted in failing to respond to changes in operating conditions. The air compressor has
been maintained, but the power yet to supply due the lack of a proper plant expert. The plant
was originally designed and built by a foreign company KOICA, and there are no local
experts who are familiar with its operation. The failure of compressor operation makes
failure in testing of the booster pump and valves.

To optimize plant performance, it is crucial to prioritize regular maintenance and operation.

This requires frequent monitoring of the plant to detect faults and address them promptly.
The development of a SCADA model specifically designed for the existing plant has been
undertaken. This model will aid in monitoring and tracing faults, enabling timely
identification and resolution. Integrating the SCADA model into the plant's infrastructure,
from the digester tank to the purification unit, will facilitate efficient fault detection and
enhance overall operational efficiency.
