As a fresh addition to the QCA Design Studio team, we need you to craft an
icon of your face in a minimalistic style. The icon should distinctly represent
you while adhering to the straightforward aesthetic of our examples. Ensure that
the strokes maintain uniform width, consistent endings, and use the appropriate
colours.

The backdrop should take the form of a circle, and you have the freedom to se-
lect a colour that resonates with your identity. Whether you opt for a new or an
existing professional photo, the aim is to maintain harmony with the self-por-
traits of the MVM Teaching Team, creating a cohesive visual identity.

A tech entrepreneur, originally from New Zealand but now in Australia, is crafting a funding proposal
for a new app. They require a logo for their promotional materials, which will be presented to poten-
tial investors. The “WAVE” app aims to connect local music artists with a wider audience. The client is
inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and desires a logo that incorporates tradition-
al art elements. They value your design expertise and are open to your guidance in handling cultural
content respectfully. The client envisions the logo reflecting an ‘Australian’ feel, with a focus on native
plants and landscapes. It’s crucial to note that the client lacks approval from First Nations individuals or
communities to use cultural symbols, and they don’t have any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island Cultural
affiliations. The central components of the logo design include the “WAVE” text and an associated icon
or complementary graphic element. The client has thoughtfully shared stylistic logo examples from the
internet for your guidance. As you dive into this creative endeavor, it is important to strive to capture
the essence of these references while maintaining cultural sensitivity and respect.

A local furniture design company known as Hello Furniture Co. has requested a poster for
promoting an upcoming open studio community event. They have provided an example
poster, “hello! yello!” obtained from Pinterest, and they would like you to closely repli-
cate its layout. This includes using the same fonts, positioning the text in the same way,
and using identical images. However, instead of the original little person illustration, you
are asked to create a new illustration featuring a person wearing a zebra mask (attached
below). The poster should be in A5 portrait format. It’s important to note that the client
has not obtained a licensing agreement or formal permission to use any of the intellectual
property in the design.

In this creative task, the objective is to conceptualize and design a surreal composite image
using an A5 page. Images are provided from Stock images, which will serve as your prima-
ry source material. Your task involves selecting one background image and one ‘hero’ or
person to be prominently featured in your composite. Meticulously etch around the cho-
sen person’s image and seamlessly merge it with the background image. Strive to create a
composite image that is nearly believable. Achieve this by ensuring that shadows, perspec-
tive, scale, and etching harmoniously blend with the background image. While aiming
for realism, don’t hesitate to explore surreal concepts, combining elements that would not
naturally coexist in real life, opening the door to imaginative possibilities. This challenge
invites you to push the boundaries of creativity, crafting composite images that challenge
reality while maintaining visual cohesion and intrigue.

Design Brief
The client seeks a redesign of the provided document titled “The Gender Pay Gap by Age Group, June
2022” with the primary aim of improving its readability and expanding its audience appeal. Recognizing
the document’s substantial value, the client anticipates that a more imaginative and visually engaging
layout will extend its impact.
An InDesign file with grids is provided to lessen the time. A folder was also provided containing a
carefully curated selection of images sourced exclusively from unsplash.com. Please adhere strictly to
this image collection and refrain from incorporating any images outside of the specified set. Additional
details and content resources can be found in the studio notes at the conclusion of this brief.
As part of the redesign process, you will need to review and edit the original document’s text. Not all
content from the original will fit within the new design, so thoughtful consideration is required to deter-
mine what to include and what to exclude in the final output.
This project presents an exciting opportunity to transform valuable information into a visually captivat-
ing format that resonates with a broader audience.

Design Brief
An unconventional perfume company is seeking guidance on fundamental photography
concepts for their image library.
Currently, we lack specific details about the upcoming fragrances they plan to introduce.
Therefore, we’ll begin by using random everyday items. The MVM Creative Director has
assigned you the task of visiting your local supermarket and purchasing any three items
while staying within your budget. These items should be seemingly unrelated, creating
an intriguing contrast. For instance, you might choose a can of soda, a roll of toilet paper,
and a pair of scissors, or perhaps a bunch of grapes, a bottle of sunscreen, and a frozen
chicken. Once you’ve acquired your chosen items, contemplate how they can be visually
arranged together. When your selection is ready, capture a series of photographs. While
a smartphone camera is suitable for this project, you are welcome to use a camera if you
possess one.
