(computer). 1. Relief Printmaking - It is a type of printing wherein the material is carved from around the

3. Planographic Printmaking - It is also called lithograph, is a type of printmaking in which the (FB
design is printed from a flat surface. This type of printmaking, an image/design is drawn on the Messenger)
surface with a grease material, such as a grease crayons, and the water is applied.

4. Stencil Printmaking or Stenciling - It involves cutting the design out of a thin material called a
stencil. The design is then printed by rubbing, rolling or spraying paint through the cutout area.

THREE BASIC TIPS IN PRINTMAKING
1. Creating the plate - A printing plate is made by creating design or an image
on the surface of the material.
2. Inking the plate - This is applying ink or inks to the plate.
3. Transferring the image - This involves the transfer of the ink to the paper or cloth by
pressing the paper or cloth against the plate. The paper or cloth is then pulled off the plate.
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
Balance- it is a distribution of visual weight on either side of the vertical axis. Symmetrical balance
uses the same characteristic. Asymmetrical uses different but equally weighted features.
Contrast- It is the arrangement of opposite elements in a composition as to create visual interest.
Examples light vs. dark, small vs. large, etc.
Emphasis- It is used to make certain parts of an Artwork stand out. It creates the center of interest
or focal point.
Movement- It is how the eye moves through the composition, leading the attention of the viewer
from one aspect of the work to another. It can create the illusion of action.
Pattern - It is the repetition of specific visual elements such as a unit of shape or form. A method
used to organize surfaces in a consistent regular manner.
Rhythm- It is the repetition of, or alternation element to create cohesiveness and interest.
Digital printing- is a newer process to the world of printing. It is a type of printmaking which takes
a digital image then prints it onto face such as paper, cloth etc. This type of printmaking uses laser
or ink jet printers.

ADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL PRINTING
1. Full color - various design possibilities with full of color and gradation print without limitation of
colors.
2. Quick delivery - full color print is done in one process without using plates. It enables quick
delivery.
3. Color Matching Time is Reduced- using the digital data makes easy and simply color matching
and based on the original design the production can start right away.
4. Low Cost - low-cost production is achieved by printing without plates and with less production
processes.
5. Simple - simple process makes and body to be able to print easy. It is simple as that it does the
knowledge of prepress or blending ink.
6. Small Volume Production- on demand and only one production is possible by printing without
plates. Variable data printing and costume-made production is also possible.
7. High Added Value- inkjet printer allows glossy, finish, texture print, and embossed effect which
adds more value to the printed materials.
8. Environmental Friendly- reduces ink waste because it ejects ink only to the printer. It also
reduces the process to clean the plate after printing.
4 STEPS FOR DIGITAL PRINTING ON T-SHIRT
1. Pre-treat - prime dyed t-shirt for digital ink application.
2. Heat press - flatten fabric fibers for smoother print surface.
3. Printing - loading t-shirt and send artwork to the printer.
4. Set Ink - run t-shirt through high temperature dyer.

Silkscreen Printing- also known as serigraph, is a stencil printing technique that use stencil. A
Stencil is a sheet of paper, fabric, plastic metal or other material design cut or punched from it.
BASIC EQUIPMENT IN SILKSCREEN PRINTING
printing screens shipping tapes substrate spray glue ink squeegee plywood
ink rulers cleaners precision cutting knife stencil film and hinged screen clamps
PROCEDURE
1. Create the screen by stretching a fabric, such as silk, over a wooden or aluminum frame.
2. Draw the image or design either manually or using a computer software on a piece of paper or
plastic or captured in a photograph. Cut out the image or design to form a stencil.
3. Block the areas of the screen mesh with a waterproof masking medium. These are the negative
areas of the final image.
4. Place the screen over the substrate or the material or surface onto which the image will be
printed (such as paper, textile or fabric, parchment, or glass).
5. Apply ink to the top of the screen and spread it across the screen, over the stencil and through
the open mesh onto the substrate underneath. Use a squeegee or a rubber blade usually the same
width as the screen to spread the ink. The unblocked area allows the ink to pass through and create
the image on the substrate. You can use any number of colors. You need to make a separate screen
for each color.
You can create your digital stencil design using software programs like Adobe Illustration or Corel
Draw. You can print your digital design on clear vellum (a type of paper). This is your film positive.
The most recent developments in screen printing technology have allowed for better quality and
rapid production. These includes the automatic press; faster drying techniques; and the invention of
the rotary screen press, which permits continual press operation.
