Brazil) of the Amazon among others.
Description:
The Sao Paulo aquarium was opened in 2006 and is the first thematic aquarium in Latin
America and the only one in Brazil. With more than 4 million liters of water and featuring 300
species of fish. It has 15.000 m² total area with 25 tanks containing several species of fish from
Amazon, Pantanal (wetlands in Brazil), Tietê river basin and other parts of the world.
During the tour, we will observe animals in their natural ecosystem. We will come close to
sharks, stingrays, Amazonian manatees, anteaters, howler monkeys, otters and giant
Amazonian fish (such as Pirarucus, Pirararas, Tambaquis and Jaús) and many other fishs.
In 2018 the Sao Paulo aquarium received a new inhabitant. His name is Castanho (Brown in
English). He is an Amazonian manatee (it is a mammal, also known as sea cows with paddle-
like flippers and can weigh op to 550 kg, or 1.200 pounds, can grow up to 4 meters long) with a
stunning history: he was hit by a harpoon when he was a young and lost his tail. Caretakers are
trying to develop an artificial tail for him. Have you ever seen a manatee before?
Some residents have come from far away: Aurora and Pelegrino are a polar bear couple, very
beautiful and funny that love to swim. Try to take a picture with them.
The Sao Paulo aquarium has animals from several parts of the world. Visitors walk through an
"airport", and from there, using your imagination, you are transported to Africa, Indonesia,
Australia and even Patagonia (south tip of Argentina and Chile). You will be able to see
kangaroos, koalas, lemurs, meerkats, giant bats of Java, monkeys, toucans and many other
animals. Take your coat to visit the icy penguin’s site, they are very friendly and playful.
Genesis 1:21 says: “And God created the great sea creatures and all living creatures that move
and swarm in the waters”.
How good it is to be able to observe Jehovah's creation!
