ENERGY CONSERVATION

Activities associated with KS-ORKA Project consume & require a significant amount of energy (e.g.
electricity, diesel, oil, gas etc ) and have the potential to impact on local and global energy reserves.
Heavy equipment operation as well as electricity is our
main energy use right now.

Some examples of these activities include:

 Use of mobile equipment, such as, cranes,

excavators, trucks, heavy equipment and rollers,
to construct infrastructure
 Use of generator sets to power office equipment
and accommodation and housing facilities ;

Why we need to conserve Energy?

There are two types of energy source which are:

1. Renewable energy sources:

Energy source which is naturally replenished

over a short period of time, for example sun,
wave, wind, geothermal

2. Non-renewable energy sources:

These are natural resources that cannot be

replenished over a short period of time (fossil
fuels such as oil, gas, and coal).

Once Non-renewable energy sources are gone they cannot be used again. So, we must all do our part
in saving as much energy as we can. Conserving energy is also conserving money therefore we must
really consider in conserving energy in the way we conduct our business and life. Many forms of energy
we use in our homes and businesses are from non-
renewable energy sources which could take millions of
years to create.

What is the benefit of conserving energy?

1. Reduce air pollution

2. Minimize potential impact of Global warming
3. Increase the life time of non-renewable energy resource
4. Reduce cost which potentially will increase profit

Your Contribution to Conserve Energy in the Office

1
 Turn off any lighting when room not in use
 Use more switches, divide lighting circuits
 Use more sun light during the day, open your curtain
 Arrange your furniture not to block sun light / lighting
 Turn of Air Conditioner when room not in use
 Turn on Air Conditioner 30 minute after office hour started and turn it off before the end of office hour
 Regular maintenance of Air Conditioner
 Unplug all equipment if not being used (Computer, Photocopy machine, Printer, Television)
 Consider more energy efficient equipment prior to procure.

In the Field & Workshop

 Switch off lighting plant as early as possible

 Switch off vehicle and plant engines when they are not being used
 Regular maintenance of vehicle and fixed plant
 Use insulation for heater and air conditioner, report any loose/ damage insulation
 Monitor every energy use in our operation simple energy saving steps such as switching off equipment
not being used is an overall saving in electricity costs and reduces potentially damaging environmental
impacts through the burning of fossil fuels

So start your contribution now, do not waste energy
