LARO MUNA, BAGO ARAL: STUDENT’S GAMER’S DAILY ROUTINES

AND LEARNINGS STYLES

Introduction and Rationale

Student-gamer's daily routines and learning styles refer to the habits and behaviors of

students who regularly engage in video gaming and how their gaming habits intersect

with their academic pursuits. The daily routines of student-gamers encompass their

schedules, including when they play games, how long they play, and how often they

engage in gaming. Learning styles refer to the way that student-gamers approach the

process of acquiring and retaining information, including their preferences for visual,

auditory, or kinesthetic learning. Understanding the daily routines and learning styles of

student-gamers can provide insights into how gaming affects their academic

performance and can inform the development of effective educational policies that take

into account the needs of the modern-day student.

Statement of the Problem

This study entitled Tara G! Laro Muna Bago Aral: Student- Gamer’s Daily

Routines and Learning Styles aims to describe the daily routines and learning styles of

grade 11 students in Alangilan Senior High School.

Specifically it focuses on exploring the following:

Gamers?

Literature Review

Here is a literature review on the topic of the effects of online games on academic

performance among senior high school students:

According to a study by Kuss and Griffiths (2012), excessive online gaming can lead to

negative impacts on academic performance among students.

The study found that students who spent more time playing online games had lower

grades and were more likely to miss classes. The authors suggest that online gaming

can become addictive and interfere with students’ ability to focus on their studies.

Similarly, a study by Li and Leung (2012) found that online gaming can have a negative

impact on academic performance among high school students in China. The study

found that students who played online games for more than two hours per day had

lower grades and were more likely to miss classes. The authors suggest that online

gaming can become a distraction and lead to poor time management skills.

Another study by Gentile et al. (2011) found that excessive online gaming can lead to

poor academic performance and other negative outcomes among high school students

in the United States. The study found that students who played more than five hours of

video games per day had lower grades, were more likely to have behavioral problems,

and were more likely to have poor health habits. The authors suggest that parents and
educators should be aware of the potential negative impacts of online gaming on

students.

However, some studies have found that online gaming can have positive effects on

academic performance. For example, a study by Adachi and Willoughby (2013) found

that playing strategic video games can improve cognitive skills and academic

performance among high school students. The authors suggest that playing video

games that require problem-solving and strategic thinking can improvestudents’ ability

to learn and retain information.

Overall, the literature suggests that excessive online gaming can have negative impacts

on academic performance among senior high school students. However, it is important

to note that not all online gaming is harmful, and some types of games may even have

positive effects on students’ cognitive skills and academic performance.
