ISSUES CONFRONTING ADOLESCENTS, PERSONALITY CHANGES AND INTEREST

Adolescence is a phase when children go through several changes as they journey from
childhood to maturity. It is also a vulnerable time for children since they may experience several
problems of adolescence, such as unhealthy behaviors, which may lead to significant problems
later in life. Concerns about adolescent behavior are also common during this time, making it
difficult for parents to connect with their children.

Adolescence is the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood that occurs between ages 13
and 19. The physical and psychological changes that take place in adolescence often start
earlier, during the preteen or "tween" years: between ages 9 and 12.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships
with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical,
but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Addressing a disorder
early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.

What are the stages of adolescence?

The stages of adolescence include early adolescence from age 10 to 14, mid-adolescence from
age 15 to 17, and late adolescence from age 18 to 24. Each stage encompasses different
challenges for teens and necessitates different responses from parents.

What is the purpose of adolescence?

The purpose of adolescence is for a child to psychologically and socially transform into a young
adult. Breaking from their childhood attachment and security allows children to acquire freedom
and responsibility to develop independence and to differentiate themselves from their parents
and childhood to establish their own unique identity.

Why is puberty so challenging?

Puberty begins between ages 9 and 15, and it lasts between a year and a half to three years.
The hormonal and biological changes that occur can lead adolescents to feel anxious and self-
conscious and to require more privacy and become preoccupied with their appearance, which
can influence how they are perceived and accepted.

Why do teens make bad decisions and take risks?

Adolescent risk-taking is often blamed on hormonal changes, but relationships play a key role
as well. The teenage years are devoted to creating friendships that can serve individuals for life.
Along those lines, research suggests that adolescents are motivated by peer acceptance more
than adult perceptions—for better or for worse.
How does sleep change during adolescence?

The biological clock shifts during puberty, prompting teens to become sleepy later and therefore
wake up later to get the recommended 8 to 10 hours of sleep. This is why later middle and high
school start times are associated with improved attendance and grades as well as a lower
likelihood of experiencing depression.

Personality change is not unique to adolescence. If you zoom out and look across the entire
lifespan, what you see is an average increase in desirable personality traits – less angst, greater
self-control, less close-mindedness, more friendliness.

The following are the key concerns connected with adolescence:

- Moral problem: Different moral principles are widely debated in society, but our society does
not obey them in practice, so teenagers are confused by the dual standards of moral norms and
rebel against these double standards.

- Issues of gender inequality: In our society, gender inequality is prevalent. Strict limits on
teenage girls are in effect. They rebel in these circumstances whether they are emotionally
tough or become prey to mental tensions and dynamic inferiority.

-Issues related to emotional change: In puberty, great emotional changes occur.

Adolescents are becoming greedier and they don't want to hurt their egos. Adolescents are
interested in visions and hallucinations. In teenagers, this emotional disparity creates several
issues.

-Problems associated with mental change: In youth, mental changes are very rapid. In
teenagers, there is fickle mindedness.
- Sex related problems: Rapid growth and development of reproductive organs occurs during
puberty. In teenagers, this results in an overwhelming desire for women. This triggers several
issues associated with sex.

- Social transition problems: Teenagers become more emotional in this time of rapid
change. The convention of culture is generally faced with them. In social adaptation, the
generation gap often creates obstacles.

Growth and development, education, childhood illnesses that persist into adolescence, mental
health issues, and the effects of risky or illegal conduct, including injury, legal consequences,
pregnancy, infectious diseases, and drug use issues, are the most common problems among
teenagers.
