ABSTRACT
Classification of literature: drama - consist of elements, definition, features
and kinds. Classification helps us to determine the correct sequence of pattern in a
drama, to make the story good, creative and interesting and to identify what kind of
play did it portrayed. It can be comedy, tragedy or tragicomedy, melodrama, musical
or opera. It also identify the elements and the feature of the drama which you can
notice that it have almost similarities because of the plot and characters but both
classification has a differences and the last one is the definition of the drama which
it is to define and describe what is inside in a drama.

INTRODUCTION

The classification of literature: drama is one of the interesting topics because

it includes on how you portrayed the specific kinds of drama which consist of comedy
, tragicomedy, tragedy, melodrama, opera and musical. It also includes features
which refers to a distinctive qualities, shape a particular genre and characteristics.
Feature have a plot, characters, dialogue, setting and theme. This feature help the
reader to understand what happened in a story, where and when the story takes
place and who are the characters. Definition of the drama is one of the classification
in which intended to portray life or character or to tell a story usually involving
conflicts and emotions through action and dialogue and typically designed for
theatrical performance (Merriam Webster dictionary). And the last one is an
elements of drama These classifications indicates to comprehend and to expand the
knowledge of drama and to establish the significance of drama.

The purpose of classification of literature: drama develop person’s

imagination and creativity, it also help develop emotion and give a taste of beauty,
you can write a story with standard structures, you can learn how to correct
sequence pattern and develop writing skills.

Moreover, classification of literature in drama has an identification in which

you can convey the difference of the play. These are the kinds of category in a play ;
comedy- a fiction or genre consist of humorous or amusing by inducing laughter.
Example the Pepito Manaloto, Banana Split , Eat Bulaga and a lot more. This
example came from Philippines in which you can really say it is humorous
entertainment. In a comedy there are also two genre : farce and satire , the
difference between the two are that farce uses slapstick humor and bawdy jokes .
Example, the Taming of the shrew by William Shakespeare, this is farce because of
the rapidity of the action, the presence of knockabout sequences which don't advance the plot,
and actions which have "a mechanical, automatic quality" while satire uses humor, irony
and wit to make the audience laugh just like what Vice Ganda did during ShowTime,
this is also belongs to satire cause refers to a style critiquing society as well as
the work created by using that style. The second one is tragicomedy a serious
drama interspersed with funny moments that periodically lighten the mood or drama
that has a happy ending. Some of the example of tragicomedy are the movies of the
Merchant of Venice, this is also tragicomedy because it has a comic structure but
one of the central characters, Shylock, looks very much like a tragic character. The
next one is melodrama – a sensational dramatic piece with exaggerated characters
and exciting events intended to appeal to the emotions. Example, is twilight in which
it focused on exaggerated plots rather than characterization. The next one is
tragedy, a dramatic form involving serious actions of universal significance and with
implicants, usually with an unhappy ending just like the Romeo and Juliet, Julius
Caesar etc. . There is also an Opera, which is a theatrical piece that tells a story
totally through music. Example of it are La boheme, Tosca and a lot more. And the
last one is Musical, a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken
dialogue, acting and dance. Example, My fair lady and the fantasticks.

In addition, it has also a features in a drama. The first one is plot which typically
include rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. The second is character ,
then the dialogue, the settings and the theme. This feature has a similarities in
elements which is part and belongs to classification. Well, you can easily identify the
plot and characters which are both have the same definition but despite of the
similarities there is also the difference, which feature in a drama - defines a
characteristic traits that defines genre, while elements is a building blocks that make
all type of drama. The last one is the definition of the drama which we can
addressed it to be our past time, hobbies or interest . The significance of the drama
is that it helps to develop creative artistic, communication, empathy, self-
awareness, and teamwork. It is also important for society because it encourages
critical thinking, reflection, and fosters cultural understanding.

CONCLUSION

Therefore, drama is not only just a drama but it is something interesting

because as you can see at these classification, it brings our dreams to life; it gives
wings to our imagination. its literal meaning, tells a fictional or non-fictional tale,
usually of human conflict through dialogues and actions performed by artists. These
can make the play ,and writings beautiful, creative , and wonderful. We have drama
to relieve some stress, to make our mental and physical become good and better
and it also relieve our anger and can far from any negativity. That’s why drama is
important to us as a human. We need to conquer it in order to have a better life and
experiences.
