    Question 1 Answer ALL questions

    i Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the beam. (12 marks)

    ii. A telephone line (cable) stretches between two points which are 150 ft apart and at the same
    elevation. The line sags 5 ft and the cable have a weight of 0.3 lb/ft. Determine the length of the
    cable and the maximum tension in the cable. (8 marks)

    Question 2
    Determine the polar moment of inertia of the area shown with respect to (a) point O, (b) the
    centroid of the area. (20 marks)
