USS TED STEVENS COMMITTEE FORMING

September 26, 2023 ANCHORAGE-

The USS Ted Stevens Commissioning Committee (USSTSCC) has formed a 501 (C )(3) and is now
developing the committee. The USSTSCC would like to alert the public of the opportunity to join in
volunteering on the project. The first committee meeting since forming the new entity will be held on
September 26th.

“The mission of the Commissioning Committee is to serve the crew of the USS Ted Stevens and plan the
Commissioning event. This will take hundreds of volunteers, thousands of attendees, and hundreds of
thousands of dollars. We have time to plan an incredible, week-long occasion to honor the crew and the
legacy of the Senator,” said Lindsey Cashman, President of the USS Ted Stevens and former member of
the USS Anchorage Commissioning Committee 2011-2013.

Captain Brian Quin added, “Alaska was overwhelmingly supportive of the state’s first Commissioning in
2013. We believe that this will be the greatest Commissioning of Alaska’s history, considering the reach
and impact of Senator Stevens’ and we’re assembling the team to make this happen.”

Chair of the USSTSCC, Captain Brian J. Quin, was the Commanding Officer of the USS Anchorage. He fell
in love with Alaska and built many long-term friendships here. His connections led him to join the
USSTSCC from San Diego, CA.

The Honorable Sean O’Keefe was the Master of Ceremonies for the ship’s Christening. He was the 69 th US
Secretary of Navy, 10th Director of NASA, former staffer, and current Ted Stevens Foundation Board
Member. He serves on the Executive Committee of the USSTSCC.

The process starts with the keel laying, then the sponsors are recognized at the Christening and the crew
is recognized at the Commissioning events. It will take approximately two years and $1.5 million dollars
to pull off the ceremony, tours, crew support, and scholarship endowment.
Committees on the USSTSCC are Finance, Logistics, Crew Support (MWR), Events, Government Relations,
Communications, and Executive branch.

The USSTSCC is supported by and works in unison with the Ted Stevens Foundation but is a separate
non-profit entity.

The date of the Commissioning for the Navy Destroyer is unknown. The Captain of the DDG-128 will be
visiting Alaska and making her recommendation for the location to the Secretary of the Navy in the next
few months.

If someone is interested in joining the USSTSCC, sponsoring or donating please visit the website
