- A drawing board is a flat, smooth surface used to support paper or

other media for drawing, drafting, or sketching.

- A drawing sheet is a sheet of paper or other material used for
drawing.
- A mini-drafter is a small, portable drafting tool used for technical
drawing, engineering, architecture and design.
- A drafting machine is a mechanical device used in technical drawing
and engineering to aid in creating precise lines and accurate shapes.
- A T-square is a technical drawing instrument used to draw straight
horizontal lines and accurately position vertical lines.

- Compasses - For drawing circles and arcs. Have an adjustable pivot point and
pencil/pen attachment. Used for measuring radii.
- Dividers - Like compasses but without the pencil attachment. Used for
measuring, dividing distances, transferring measurements.
- Protractors - For measuring angles. May have swinging arms with pencil
attachments.
- Scales/rules - Edged rulers in standard units like 1:20, 1:50, etc. Used for
measuring and scaling drawings.
- Curves - Flexible curves in various shapes to aid drawing ellipses, irregular
curves.
- Pens/pencils - Varieties of technical drawing pens, lead holders, sharpeners.
- Templates - Design aids like circles, ellipses, triangles, human figures.
- French curves - Templates with complex curves for drawing intricate shapes.
- Set squares - Precisely angled triangles to aid drawing parallel lines.
- T-square or mini-drafter - For smooth, straight edges.
- Erasers, leads, cleaning tools - For care and maintenance.
- Parallel bar/ruling pen - For drawing parallel lines and precise lines.
- Magnifiers - For detailed works.
- Architect's Scale - These specialized rulers come in different ratios like 1:20,
1:50, 1:100, etc. Used to draw structures to scale.
- Engineer's Scale - Also called a graphic scale. Folding rulers marked with ratios
useful for engineering drawings. Common scales are 1:10, 1:20, 1:25, 1:50,
1:75, 1:100, etc.
- General Purpose Scale - Disposable plastic scales marked with common units
like 1:1 (full size), 1:2, 1:4, 1:8, 1:10, 1:20, 1:40, 1:80, etc. plus inches and
centimeters.
- Metric Scale - Measures in millimeters and centimeters instead of inches.
Allows for metric measurement.
- Scale Bar - A graphic representation of a scale used on maps and plans. The
bar is marked with distance divisions.
- Comparative Scale - Used in measuring drawings with different scales. The
bars allow comparison of one scale to another.
- Plan Measure Scale - Specialized ruler for scaling full-size building plans to
actual dimensions.
- Proportional Divider Scale - Allows transfer of measurements between
drawings of different scales.
- Triangular Scale - Printed isosceles triangles marked with multiple units and
scales for flexibility.
- A protractor is an instrument used for measuring and constructing
angles.
- French curves are specialized drawing templates used in technical
drafting and design work.
- Drawing pencils are specially formulated graphite pencils used for
sketching, drawing, and drafting.
- Kneaded Erasers - Soft, pliable putty erasers that can be shaped. Used to
lightly erase graphite and charcoal without damaging the paper.
- Vinyl Erasers - General purpose erasers made of soft vinyl. Erase pencil, pen,
ink marks. Crumble as they are used.
- Plastic Erasers - Firm erasers made of plastic rather than rubber. Used for
erasing ink and pencil.
- Drafting Erasers - Often called gum erasers. Dense, high-quality erasers that
cleanly erase pencil lines but don't smudge. Conical shape.
- Block Erasers - Firm square blocks good for erasing large areas and soft pencil
marks. Can be shaped to a chisel edge.
- Electric Erasers - Battery powered erasers with nylon brush heads that erase
pencil lines with the press of a button.
- Art Gum Erasers - Specialty erasers designed to cleanly remove graphite,
charcoal, and pastels without damaging the paper.
- Sandpaper Blocks - Can be used to erase soft pencil, charcoal, pastels. Also
useful for sharpening and shaping eraser ends.
- Dusting Brushes - Soft brush used to gently whisk away eraser crumbs and
keep the drawing surface clean.
- Erasing Shields - Thin metal strips with holes used to mask areas that need
protecting while erasing.

Drawing Clips:

 Spring loaded clips that grip onto the edges of paper. Have soft pads to
prevent tearing.
 Good for keeping individual sheets securely fastened to a drawing board.
 Come in different sizes like small binder clips or large easel clips.
 Allow paper to be rotated or removed easily without damage.
Drawing Pins:

 Push pins that can tack paper to drawing boards.

 Available with plastic, brass or stainless steel pins. Acid-free for archival work.
 Must be used carefully to avoid tearing or puncturing important areas.
 Best for temporary holding during the drawing process.

Adhesive Tape:

 Acid-free artist tape can be used to secure paper to drawing surfaces.

 Gentler on paper than using pins or clips. Reduced risk of tearing.
 Allows repositioning during work. Leaves no damage when removed.
 Available in convenient dispensers and rolls.
 Linen tape is preferred over regular scotch tape which contains acids.

- Sharpener:

 Manual Pointed Pencil Sharpeners - Handheld sharpeners that taper the lead
to a fine point for detail work.
 Electric Pencil Sharpeners - Motorized sharpeners that quickly and evenly
sharpen pencils. Good for high volume.
 Sandpaper Sharpening Blocks - A block of fine grit sandpaper that can be
used to smoothly sharpen pencil tips.
 Razor Blade Sharpeners - Specialty sharpening tools that uses a blade to
sharpen a precision chisel edge.
 Single Blade Pocket Sharpeners - Compact portable sharpeners with one
blade for sharp pointed tips.
 Rotary Sharpeners - Sharpeners with rotating cutting blades that automatically
taper the lead when inserted.
 Long Point Sharpeners - Specialty sharpeners that sharpen an extra long, thin
point for technical applications.
 Lead Pointers - Sharpeners with fine sandpaper or a razor that puts an ultra-
fine point on just the lead, not the wood.
 Electric Lead Pointers - Electric sharpener that spins the pencil exposing just
the lead to sharpen to a super fine point.
 Craft Knives - Can be used to carefully whittle and shape pencil tips for
custom points.
