EIS Executive Summary

Katalili is one of the mountains in the Municipality of Mabini that is blessed with

beautiful views. Barangay Poblacion 2, where this mountain is located, is not yet a well-

developed barangay amidst its touristic mountains. Since the place is not yet

developed, the proponents wanted to pursue the project of glamping rooms and a hiking

trail. This proposal aimed to promote the barangay and ecotourism. In the same

manner, this project aims to preserve the mountain, help the locals have jobs, and

suffice the desired adventures of the tourists. The project is in the process of being

realized. The proposed project offers hiking facilities that help tourists reach the peak

safely and enable them to have an adventure while enjoying the view, the freshness of

the air, and refreshments for the soul. Also, this project offers glamping rooms for

tourists and locals to take a rest, pause, and refresh themselves from stress.

SELAH HIKING AND GLAMPING AREA

 As the pandemic pauses us from traveling, we get to discover places that we

ignored and took for granted because we aimed at those places that most people

traveled to. But now, as time slowly allows us to travel again, and because of the

restrictions tourists experienced, travelers are eager to explore new places. Provinces

promote their newly discovered tourist spots, open borderlines for tourists, and rebuild

the tourism industry. Bohol is one of the provinces that opened its border to tourists.

Bohol is home to various natural resources such as beaches, mountains, caves,

springs, falls, and many other tourist attractions. Undeniably, Bohol has many

attractions to offer, activities to indulge in, and histories to unveil, and is best known for

tarsiers and the iconic chocolate hills. One of the qualities Bohol offers is solitude on

beaches, tranquil mountains, and detoxification from stress, which is why most tourists

choose to live there. The tourism industry in Bohol proudly presents each municipality

and barangay with its unique tourist attractions. Mabini is located in the eastern part of

the province, approximately 32.4 km distance from Tagbilaran City to Mabini.

Katalili is the mountain that will greet everyone upon entering Mabini. Katalili is

not a famous mountain, but some who visited the place were mesmerized by the view. It

faces four wonderful views, such as Cogtong Bay, the sunset, some parts of the Ubay

Sea, and another mountain top. While walking to the top, you can feel the solitude of the

place, the fresh air, and the peace of the fast passage of time. As you approach the

middle, you’ll be greeted by the sunset and fully experience the kiss of the pastel color

of the sky. At night, you get to experience the close meeting of the moon and stars.

Proposing this project is under realization to satisfy the desired adventures of the

tourists. Secure an adventure with the assurance of relaxation, refreshments, and the
safety of the tourists. Providing trails for the adventurer to reach the top is one of the

services offered by this project. Not just a simple trail but with more adventurous

pathways, there is also a bonfire area, a tent area, and moon sightseeing. For people

who are incapable of more hiking, a room with a touch of luxury is offered. Glamping

rooms provide necessities, a sunset view, and serenity.

Detailed Discussion of the Project

Rationale

Mabini is currently building up the tourism industry as a municipality aspiring to

discover more of the town's hidden wonders, promote the latest tourist attractions, and

achieve economic stability. The beauty of the natural resources bestowed in Mabini

provides jobs, employment, and income generation for the locals. Moreover, the town's

natural resources have opened more attractions to business owners.

Katalili is one of the bestowed natural resources of Mabini that opens

opportunities for the tourism industry. The project is under realization and is believed to

generate benefits for the town, locals, and the environment. Through this project,

awareness of the environment may be revealed to people who’d like to come, for the

locals and government, while preserving the beauty and state of the natural resources

through environment design while receiving income for economic growth.

EIA Approach and Methodology

The presentation of the project is to be done and participated by the stakeholders

who are invited to the session. Everyone is encouraged to question, suggest, and give

their recommendations for the improvement and betterment of the project, to be

followed by an EIS and IEE. Thereafter, preparations for the fulfillment of the

requirements needed for the approval of the project.

Project Information

The project’s location is visible on the highway of Poblacion 2, Mabini, Bohol, and

is approximately 1 km from the center of the municipality. Establishing a hiking trail for

the convenience of the tourists so they can reach the peak. Making hiking much more

fun, enjoyable, and filled with amazing views of the neighboring municipalities with the

assurance of safety.

Another fun activity is reaching the top with a bonfire area to warm up at night. A

tent area where tourists can set up their tents; also, an experience of watching the sun

as it sets and meeting up with the moon and stars up close.

Building a glamping room in the midway of the mountain for tourists who want to

stay overnight without the inconvenience of setting up tents and reaching the top,

midway glamping rooms offer the same vibe as the peak, where sunsets are also

visible. Glamping rooms provide rest, solitude, and a peaceful experience for the tourist

with a wonderful view.

said Barangay.
