PROTOCOLS TO BE ADHERED TO FOR THE VIDEO RECORDING OF PRACTICAL
ASSESSMENTS

CANTA/CARICOM have signed off on CVQ Assessments under Covid-19.

In general, video recordings can be considered an option to record the assessment

process. It is seen as a key tool to capture the evidence in a competency-based
assessment environment. It allows for the evaluation of historical information concerning
a practical that does not currently exist and video evidence provides insight into the
candidate’s capabilities and competency level.

A condition of this however, is that there should be an observer (working on behalf of

the Awarding Body) who can vouch for the authenticity of the activity. Otherwise, the
assessment is not valid.

The following guidelines should be observed:

1. The Assessor and candidate must agree with all parties that they agree to being
recorded in keeping with individual privacy policies.

2. The Candidate must state his or her name at the start of the recording for
identification purposes.

3. It must be clear that it is the candidate who is conducting the activity.

4. The date, time, location and NAME OF THE ASSESSOR MUST be stated at
the start of the recording.

5. The date and time must be stated at the END of the recording.

6. The video must be clear and at a distance that the task is clearly visible in order
for an assessment decision to be made with confidence.

7. The details and quality of the image must be of good quality to ensure that the
candidate and the assessor are clearly visible.

8. If possible, close-ups and long shots of the assessment activity should be taken
to allow for professional deliberations by Facilitators and Verifiers.

3
9. An assessment decision must be taken by the assessor and observed in the
video recording as evidence that the candidate is competent or not yet
competent.

10. The video must be of the actual work being undertaken in real time (must not be
re-recorded, or recorded over) and should not be a synopsis of the work done
when completed).

11. Authentication/Verification of each recording will also be undertaken by the

Awarding Body.

12. Candidates are advised to retain a copy of the video until a final decision has
been made and it has been verified.
