Name: Fionna Palicpic

Direction: Make a short speech about if you are the coach of the school’s basketball
team and you are motivating your players after a big loss

Congratulations everyone! You all did a great job! Mike, as I watched your three-point
shot earlier, I can see how much you improved.

Ricky as well, your defense stance back then the 3rd quarter; you maintained a good
posture. I thought that it would be hard for you to do that for so long but you managed to
make it last for at least 2 quarters. Good job!

Jerome, how was your ankle? It looks like you will have a good rest at home. By the
way, I was amazed by your spin move; you look so cool while doing it. Everyone did a great
job.

What’s with the frown everyone? I knew this was going to happen. Are you thinking
about why I am congratulating everyone? Simply because of your terrific performance! It was
a nice game. Stop thinking about other things. Although it is our goal to win, it doesn't mean
your performance is not worth it. You may not be able to bring victory but your performance
was awesome. Everyone had improved their skills, and remember what their team captain
said, “Your team is also worthy of this victory.” He also, no, everyone who was watching saw
your skills and potential, and I am pretty sure they all acknowledged you.

After the game, I saw how all of you smiled and congratulated the team from another
school. To be honest, it was a sight to behold because behind those smiles are
disappointments, sadness, and dismay. I am sure all of you were thinking of `If only I trained
harder, maybe we will not lose’ or ‘If only I made that shot, maybe we will not lose’. Behind
all of your smiles were regret and many ‘what-ifs’. However, it is a genuine smile. Even
though it was hard, you still celebrated others' milestones.

Tasting defeat is good. A bitter loss is good. There will always be room for
improvements and everyone still has a long way to go. Do not blame yourself. I am proud of
everyone here. I saw how all of you poured your best and your hardships from your training
and practice. Your efforts are not a waste. However, don’t forget the taste of defeat and
failure because only then you will know and appreciate the significance of the meaningful
victory. Let’s do our best next time!

Since everyone’s performance is awesome, we are going to celebrate tonight! Later,

maybe 8 p.m, tonight at Nanay’s Chicken and Beers, it’s on me! Again, congratulations!
