MATATAG Curriculum

According to World Bank , 90 percent of Filipino students are not able to read and
understand age-appropriate text at age 10. Changing this scenario for a more progressive learning is
very important. Educational Reformation is the key in order to transform school structures with the
aim of raising quality education in a country . Most needed reforms to efficient learning is having a
curriculum that paves the learner mastery of relevant basic education curriculum. Thus making a
better country in the future.
It is along this scenario that the new administration , having Vice President Zara Duterte
crafted a new curriculum that tries to address the prevalent issue in the Department of Education.
Vice President Zara Z. Duterte leads the launching of Matatag Curriculum on August 10, 2023 at
Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City . She delivered that the Matatag Curriculum is tailored to produce
responsible, job-ready , active, responsible, and patriotic citizens . It also represent a clear
representation of articulation of the 21 st century skills.The new curriculum possess peace competency
. It highlights the promotion of non violent actions and the development of conflict resolution skills
among the learners
After two years of scrutinizing the K-12 Curriculum, revisions were made by having the K-10
Curriculum or the Matatag Curriculum . One of the revision in the curriculum is the reduction of
number of competencies in the lesson. According to Dep Ed Bureau of Curriculum Development
Director Jocelyn Andaya curriculum was decngested by 70 percent. And it took them two years to do .
-Vice President Duterte stated that there are various learning competencies that a learner should
master yet there is only limited time allotted in order to do master the competency.
Another revison includes the focus on the development of foundational skills such as
literacy , numeracy and socio -emotional skills .Good manners and Right Conduct will be taugjt to
elementary and VAlues Education for the Junior High School. T
Matatag Curriculum stands for MA -Makabagong Curriculum na napapanahon .TA stands for
or Talino mula sa isip at puso , TA, tapang na humarap sa anumang hamon sa buhay and G stands for
Galing ng Pilipino.
MA -Makabagong Curriculum na napapanahon .It means that the Knowledge to share among the
learners must be relevant and the skills to teach among the learners must be applicable and
responsive to the demands of the world .there should be mastery and literacy skills. It is highly
encourage to bring back coaching by the adult to the learners at home .
TA- stands for Talino mula sa isip at puso . Learners must be mentally prepared. It is essential in
learning among the children. Aside from mentally prepared, the learners should also be emotionally
ready to navigate their complexity. Intelligence of the mind must be balanced with maturity of the
heart . Essential skills must be gained by the learners to thrive in the society . Likewise , development
of values must be integral in their character in order for them to be responsible, compassionate and
better individual
TA-tapang na humarap sa anumang hamon sa buhay .It features Harnessing the deep identity as
FIlipinos . Readiness, strength and resilience must be developed among the learners . That learners
should grow patriotic too.
G-Galing ng Pilipino , nangingibabaw sa mundo . Matatag Curriculum aim to produce learners ready
and equipped with necessary knowledge and skills in competitive world. Filipinos should claim the
spotlight of excellence .

Conclusion :

There is an old cliche that states “It takes a village to educate a child”
Providing a Relevant Basic Education for the learners is a noble task. Educators are not the only
agency that caters the next generation to equip them with essential knowledge ,skills and attitude.
Embrace the change and look positively to the revision that the Department of Education is leading us
for a better and brighter future of the Filipino people.

The motives of our heart determine the kind of service we will offer to our learners and even
to fellow teachers , to our superior and to other people around us .

Ginto or gold are refined by fire . Despite hardship or trials discouragement ,or problems in our
workplace or even in our personal life, let us still be motivated to show our pure intention to serve
because we are educators. We possess the noblest profession . We are called and chosen by the
Lord.

Likewise, they say that time is gold, that is why , do not waste time. If problems existed , don’t just
watch at it . Be part of the solution .
