The program aims to uplift the quality of education in the Philippines in order for
graduates to be easily employed. The programs also aim to meet the standards required for
professionals who would want to work abroad. The program was designed to adjust and meet
the fast changing demands of society to prepare graduates with skills essential for the world of
work. Graduates will be prepared for higher education. Due to an enhanced curriculum that will
provide relevant content and attuned with the changing needs of time, basic education will
ensure sufficient mastery of core subjects to its graduates much that graduates may opt to
pursue higher education if they choose to.
Position:
The envisioned K-12 curriculum is designed to be learner-centered, which will greatly
encourage students to be more engaged in their learning process. Because the learning is
focused on the individual preferences of each student, the process of acquiring new
information and skills that are useful in daily life and for the future becomes beneficial and
enjoyable for students.
Introduction:
Education is a weapon to improve one’s life. It is probably the most important tool to
change one’s life. Education for a child begins at home. It is a lifelong process that ends with
death. Education certainly determines the quality of an individual’s life. Education improves
one’s knowledge, skills and develops the personality and attitude. One of the benefits of
education is that the educational system teaches us how to obtain and develop critical and
logical thinking and make independent decisions. Education is the key to turn a weakness into a
strength. It offers different tools and ways to understand problems that lay ahead of us and
helps resolve them. More importantly, education provides us with considerable mental agility
to make the right decisions and spring into action when needed.
Education is an essential aspect of human life, and it plays a crucial role in shaping society. In
the Philippines, the current basic education system is outdated and inadequate to address the
country's evolving needs. The K+10+2 is a proposed curriculum that aims to replace the current
basic education system and provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive
in the 21st century. In this position paper, we will explore the benefits of adopting the K+10+2
curriculum over the current basic education system in the Philippines.

Body:
The K+10+2 Curriculum The K+10+2 curriculum proposes that children will start their
education journey with one year of Kindergarten before moving to six years of elementary
education (Grades 1-6), four years of junior high school (Grades 7-10), and two years of senior
high school (Grades 11-12). The curriculum will provide a robust and comprehensive education
experience that covers essential knowledge, skills, and character development for students.
One of the primary benefits of the K+10+2 curriculum is that it provides a more extended
period for education. The additional two years in senior high school offer students the option to
specialize in their fields of interest and explore career options before going to college. This
approach can help reduce the high rates of unemployment and underemployment in the
country by equipping students with the necessary technical skills to compete in the job market.
Furthermore, the curriculum's focus on character development is also crucial for ensuring
the well-being of students. Subjects like health, physical education, and values education are
included in the curriculum to help young people develop strong moral values, healthy habits,
and critical thinking skills. These skills are necessary for students to navigate the challenges of
the 21st century such as global health crises, climate change and the digital age's ever-changing
nature.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, it is vital to recognize the importance of education in shaping the future of a
country. The K+10+2 curriculum offers the Philippines an opportunity to provide students with
a robust and comprehensive education system that covers essential life skills essential for
thriving in the 21st century. While the current basic education system has served the country
for a long time, it is time to upgrade it to better serve the needs of modern-day students, the
job market and society. Therefore, the government should invest resources in implementing
and supporting the new form of education to ensure that Filipino students receive a quality
education that prepares them to be productive citizens in a rapidly changing world.
