Importance of k-12 in education

INTRODUCTION

( medyo masaya pa buhay ko diyan )

I am Rita Mikaela Nava, ( read slide ) in contrast to the opinions of our fellow Filipinos, I am, In favor of
this implementation. But to further ado let me state a fact that will build process to my speech as it goes
on : Education is an essential tool that society needs in order to become successful in life, It inspires
individuals to step up and thrive in generating beneficial impacts, where acknowledgment and
accomplishment are attainable. It granted everyone the capacity to engage in critical thinking from
various perspectives, enabling better decision-making to confront and navigate life's diverse challenges.
Furthermore, it instilled motivation in individuals to pursue improved opportunities essential for
personal growth along their chosen life journey.

The government introduced the K to 12 program with the aim of enhancing the country's educational
system, ultimately facilitating the global recognition of Filipino graduates and professionals. This
initiative allowed learners to acquire essential skills and develop core competencies necessary to meet
the demands of the global job market. The research presented here employed a systematic approach
and review design to address its primary objectives.

Specifically, this study delved into the perspectives of teachers, parents, and students regarding the
implementation of the K-12 program in the Philippines, which extended the duration of pre-college
education by two years. It also highlighted the various challenges arising from this new program and
outlined the government's strategies to address these issues. Furthermore, the research aimed to
provide recommendations for curriculum improvements to ensure that all learners participating in this
program receive quality education.

Now let us move forward, So... One of the reasons why K-12 was formed is to align the global standards
where education becomes a must for everyone, and I am talking about the whole world here except
Africa and us Filipinos before the year 2012. (Next slide ) More frequently asked questions like: Why do
we need to follow other countries even when most of us are working for the Philippines? To start off, let
us talk about the ASEAN integration, this may still be debatable to some people, but because of k-12 we
allow opportunities for other countries to access education and entrepreneurship to our countries, and
in exchange, we can do the same.
example, we cannot deny the fact that many Filipinos are not contented working here in our country so
half of our portient migrate to countries such as the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Malaysia, and
Japan, As we mentioned the earlier, where workforces and education are open to our country and others
If we had not implemented the k-12 curriculum OFW workers such as nurses, will become nurse-aide,
intenders will become technician and other major jobs will become degraded if you’re ever thinking of
applying, most reason why, no the main reason why: it is because we have not completed the k-12
curriculum. Well that is, if only you plan to migrate in order to gain

In addition to this topic let us dive deeper into the interview conducted in 2019 ( abueve A.) as it states :

implementing the K-12 Program in the Philippine Curriculum of Basic Education was the key to the
growth of our country. Although the government has faced many problems as it implemented the
program over several years, it has been a necessary improvement as it has been critical to the success of
our nation to increase the quality of our education. ( next slide ) Still debatable statements and
Questions such as “The K-12 serves no such good contribution to our country; over all these years the
Philippines has remained corrupt.” But if we take a look at this question, why are we blaming the k-12
system when the righteousness of our country is dependent on the people who leads us? Additional
opinion: stop canceling the k-12 curriculum just because you involve your laziness in doing schoolwork.
Yes, it is hard, Academic burnout as we say but in my Point of view: I’d rather suffer for 5 years and have
fun for the next 80 years of my life than enjoy 5 years and suffer the next 80 years of my life, Poverty is
hard and when you have preparation for your future job, instead of quitting after finding out how
pressuring it could be, the k-12 serves as a guide. Take the two years, it’s going to be helpful.

Sufficient Instructional Time

Let us compare two generations, I have chosen to interview my mother who was a part of the Ten
curriculum, and my cousin who recently finished college ( part of the 12 curriculum ) although my mom
says that living without the k-12 plan was much easier she also stated she didn’t have much time to
learn more about her chosen course either. my cousin however said that she had more time to discover
what she wanted to be in those two years, in fact, she will have much time in making decisions about
whether she wanted her pursued course or not. Being straightforward about your chosen course might
be more challenging because you are still in the stage where you are deciding who you really are. The K-
12 curriculum gives you 2 years of preparation to enhance your skills and intellect and lessen your
upcoming years of college burden.

According to my research: the DepED assessment, secondary graduates of the current system are not
adequately prepared for college. They pointed out that this is why most of the courses, the so-called
education subjects, taken by first-year college students are remedial as they should have already been
mastered in high school

Another contradicting fact is that this curriculum allows the educational approach to consider each
student's unique preferences and interests, As we are introduced into the different strands such as
STEM, ABM, HUMMS, GAS etc. which involves the process of acquiring new knowledge and skills
becomes both advantageous and pleasurable. This individualized approach makes learning more
enjoyable and relevant for students, as it enables them to see the practicality and future applicability of
the information and skills they acquire in their daily lives, Despite the challenges encountered during the
introduction of the new curriculum, numerous individuals held the belief that the long-term benefits of
the K to 12 program would greatly enhance the educational outcomes for Filipino graduates.
Consequently, there is a call for widespread support and encouragement from all Filipinos to further
improve the government's new educational system. By dedicating additional time and resources to
education, the nation can genuinely realize its growth and development goals.

More skilled and competent Graduates

Another reason to support K-12 education is because it helps students become better prepared for the
real world. In the past, students who completed only 10 years of schooling weren't ready for work
because they lacked the necessary skills.

Furthermore, these 10-year graduates were often not yet 18 years old. With K-12, high school students
get to focus on subjects they are passionate about during their senior years. This means that when they
finish high school, they have specific job skills even if they don't go to college. As if they have decided to
focus on starting an independent business venture, the different tracks and strands in senior high school
prepare them for that. Compared to the 10 curriculumn when you don’t finish studying, It is hard to find
a job that requires knowledge from the additional 2-year curriculum

So, when they graduate, these young adults are both 18 years old and capable of working, which boosts
the country's workforce and productivity.

Now let us focus on those who thrive hard. Filipino graduates are automatically recognized as
professionals abroad because we are following the international education standard as practiced by all
nations. You won't have to study all over again or spend extra money to meet these global standards.
With K-12 education, Filipino professionals who want to work abroad can find it simpler to secure jobs in
their desired careers. As what I explained earlier, applying to other nations would be much easier

Mostly complained opinions about k-12 ( answered )
