INTRODUCTION

Rationale/Background of the Study

This study aims to know the Impact of Work Immersion towards Grade 12 ABM
Students Academic Performances. The researcher wants to know if many/other students
or some other students are frustrated in encountering their work immersion. Or some
other students had enjoy the different activities they had done in their Work Immersion.
Bit the question what are the factors that mostly affect the interest of ABM students to
participate well. And mostly the questions is what are the things/factors that motivate
other student to participate well in their Work Immersion.

Work Immersion is helping students by preparing them on how to face the real
world of business it can help students to learn as much as they can because it really can
help them to achieve all their goals and fulfill all their dreams. This study focuses on how
students did their work immersion, and this study aims to determine if work immersion
really affect Grade 12 ABM students Academic Performance. Work Immersion is done
outside the campus where in students are obliged to go to curriculum existing of 80
hours hands on experience.

The grade 12 students will undergo the said Immersion to expose them to the
actual work place setting and to enrich the competencies provided by the school head
and Designated Partner Institution. Sometimes students fell that it is so hard to face the
real world of business or facing their work immersion, but when you start to do your work
immersion I am sure that you could enjoy doing a different activities in you Work
Immersion. Work Immersion gives you more challenges to discover your talents/skills
and it push you to be willing to learn as much as you can.

In doing your work immersion you just have to do the best and patiently hope that
you could pass it in that way you will make your dreams come true. And as a student,
having experienced the 80 hours of work simulation is not as easy as we think it could
be. It can be full of hardships as we are new to this and certain adjustments have to be
done. As we go through to this kind of environment we must have to be respectful, kind
and have the ability to work hard.

2
In our work immersion day I did my very best to learn as much as I can, because
we’re in Market Office there are so many activities we had to do like; issuing and
collecting cash ticket, balancing, posting, giving some papers to Municipal Office and I
also learn how to use the type writer even though sometimes I felt so tired still I did my
very best to do my assign task. Most of the employee of Market Office treat us as their
own child even the Supervisor but I admit that he is very strict when it comes to work but
I know he have to be strict for us learn and be able to give importance on what we are
doing.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This was focused on the Impact of work immersion towards Grade 12 ABM
students Academic Performance in Mangaldan National High School S.Y. 2018-2019.
The researchers used operational definition of the study. Also the researchers
choose Mangaldan National High School (MNHS) as the locate of the study because
MNHS has the highest number of Senior High School students in Region 1. Moreover
regardless of Gender, age, and their academic performance in Accounting I of the
Senior High School students with a 170 Grade 12 ABM students in served as the
participants of the study. The study was conducted from January 2019.
Definition of Terms
The following were the terms used in the study together with their respective meanings
as used in the study to provide clearness and better understanding.
Academic performance- is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has
achieved their short or long-term educational goals. Cumulative GPA and completion of
educational degrees such as High School and bachelor's degrees represent academic
achievement.
ABM Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) - strand would focus on the
basic concepts of financial management, business management, corporate operations,
and all things that are accounted for. ABM can also lead you to careers on management
and accounting which could be sales manager, human resources, marketing director,
project officer, bookkeeper, accounting clerk, internal auditor, and a lot more.
Grade 12 ABM students- student who will undergo the work immersion process to be
able to be ready on facing the real world of business. And the who is in need to survive
on the kind of environment which has assign to his/her to go.
Work Immersion- “Work Immersion refers to the part of the Senior High School (SHS)
Curriculum consisting of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which the
Grades 11 and 12 students will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace setting
and to enrich the competencies provided by the school under the supervision of the
School Head and the designated personnel of the Partner.”

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

LOCAL STUDIES

The word “immersion” as it applies to the K to 12 curriculum is defined in the

Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 40, series of 2015:“Work Immersion refers
to the part of the Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum consisting of 80 hours of hands-
on experience or work simulation which the Grades 11 and 12 students will undergo to
expose them to the actual workplace setting and to enrich the competencies provided by
the school under the supervision of the School Head and the designated personnel of
the Partner.”

Immersion is done outside the school campus in a “Workplace Immersion Venue,”

defined as “the place where work immersion of students is done. Examples of work
immersion venues include offices, factories, shops and project sites. “What could lead to
confusion is that the word “immersion” actually has two meanings in K to 12. The first
meaning refers to a required SHS subject in the curriculum. The second meaning refers
not to a subject but to a preferred mode of delivery of Tech-Voc subjects.

Let us take the first meaning – immersion as a subject in the curriculum. In the
Curriculum Guides posted on the DepEd website, the word “immersion” occurs in the
Specialized Subjects of the tracks (Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood or TVL,
Sports, and Arts and Design). Immersion is only one of four options under “Work
Immersion / Research / Career Advocacy / Culminating Activity.” (Let us call that subject
WRCC for convenience.) In the Academic Track, WRCC is the ninth required specialized
subject in the Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social
Sciences (HUMSS), and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
strands. WRCC is not listed in the General Academic Strand (GAS), but since two
Electives may be taken from the other strands, it may be required also by particular
schools

If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”  As a student, having experienced the

80 hours of work simulation is not as easy as we think it could be. It can be full of
hardships as we are new to this and certain adjustments have to be done. Work

7
immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and refers to the part of
that consists of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which Grade 12
students will undergo to expose them to the actual work setting and to enrich the
competencies provided by the school.

The said learning experience that the students can get from it will surely enable and
help students as they familiarize themselves with the workplace simulation and apply
their competencies in their particular areas. The completion of work immersion is a
prerequisite to graduation under the K-12 program.

It aims to hone globally competitive citizens, with its specialized curriculum, gearing
Filipino students for further studies, employment or entrepreneurship. Experience is
considered to be one of life’s greatest teachers. As trainees, we can use it as a
motivation as we gain expertise in our respective fields. This experience will surely help
us not only for our life as students but also our future job as professional employees of
the country.

FOREIGN STUDIES

This literature review focuses on the following the movements through the topics of
vocation, immersion, and leadership in order to understand their context in Jesuit
Secondary education for lay teacher-leaders. Fredrick Buecher (1973). Wrote, “Once
and a while this is the suggestion of purpose, meaning, direction, the suggestion that,
however clumsily, your life is trying to tell you something, take you somewhere”.

Hahnenberg (2010) describes a sense of meaning for one’s life as coming from
deep within one’s sense of who they are. One’s purpose is based on self-understanding.
Author’s like Plato, Dewey and Freire establish a theory of education that accepts the
immersion experience. Second the various voices such as Hahnenberg, Buechner,
Palmer and Gulla discuss and draw out the meaning of vocation that impacts this study.
Third, this literature review describes the levels of motivation that impact workers that
illicit ideas about how a building leader develops strategies for lay leadership. Fourth the
various authors who contribute to the study of immersion offer their perspective on the
importance of this experience. Fifth the arena, of lay leadership looks to an adaptive
leadership model develop by K.I.
