1. Provide the summary of the movie. (10pts)

Recently I watched a drama thriller that left me thinking about the structure and story It involves around the
narrative of man David Gale a man tried to live by his principles and also a former professor and
passionate anti-death penalty/ punishment campaigner who is suspected for killing and rape his best friend
and also a fellow activist this is a bitsy Bloom, a journalist, examines the case uncovering a complicated
network of secrets and ethical quandaries while questioning the legal systematic and dependability this film
addresses the moral issues of the society and surrounding that death penalty all over and keeps viewing
and questioning the captivated with its interesting narrative of this plot twist and unexpected revelations.

2. The movie talks about Capital Punishment or Death Penalty. David Gale strongly opposed death penalty.
But ironically, he was sentenced to death. To discredit death penalty, do you think David Gale’s act (as
shown towards the ending of the movie) is justified? What did David Gale do in order to discredit death
penalty? (10pts)

Without exposing too many story details, David Gale takes efforts throughout the film to compromise and
takes step to death sentence system. He aims to bring attention on the weaknesses and potential of
convictions within the legal system, in order to demonstrate that even the best-intentioned institution may
make mistakes that lead to the death of innocent people. His acts attempt to emphasize both the ethical
debates surrounding punishment by demonstrating its possibility for irreparable and tragic blunders. This
film leaves the ethical judgement of David Gale's behavior up to interpretation.

3. Judicial Truth is different from philosophical truth. Judicial truth claims something as true when evidence
presented are beyond reasonable doubt. Hence, in the court, evidence can be fabricated, and even if
evidence are fabricated this can still be accepted as “judicial truth.” With this, do you think death penalty is
the proper punishment for heinous crimes? (10pts)

1st Term AY 2023-2024 Midterm Exam

In my perspective, the death punishment/ penalty is not the appropriate punishment for crimes. My initial
explanation is that taking someone's life is a sin. "Though shall not kill," according to the Bible, is the fifth of
the ten commandments, The death penalty is useless as a deterrent to criminals. This will never be a
feasible choice. They are also removing a person's right to improve, to have a second chance at a better
life. Killing does not provide a solution, therefore it simply halts the search for one. Furthermore, there have
been situations where people have been wrongfully convicted, such as in the film, where Gale was
condemned to death for rape and murder notwithstanding Constance's suicide. They left Gale's fingerprint
on purpose, which does not mean that Gale is the suspect.

4. What is death penalty? What are the arguments in favor of death penalty? Discuss.
What are the arguments against death penalty? Discuss. (25pts)

this all my gathering information/ data about death penalty also known as capital punishment this is
the illegal method for those people murdering a person and committed a severe crime in there’s life
and there is no age limit and excuse for killing and both supporters and opponents of the death
penalty having some of the society provided compelling arguments some and some of this illegal
things supporting the none right for death sentence think that it serves as a deterrent to potential
criminals. people or individual can prevent from committing crimes if they fear of justice of the rules
of the government industry and furthermore this issue in society still sparking because 65 million
percent of people been killed per year and why this ethical, moral and practical implications claim
that death punishment provides closure and justice to victims' families, allowing them to go on with
their lives.

5. Do you think death penalty should be used as retribution for heinous crimes? Explain.
Does death Penalty deter crimes? Explain. (25pts)
Elaboration on question number 5. Retribution means recompense for the crime committed. For
example: If someone committed murder, then the proper punishment is death penalty; an eye for
an eye account.
Deterrence means to avoid further crimes from happening. Do you think the fear of death penalty
would prevent or stop people from committing more crimes?

It depends on the crime of a person not everyone should be punished by death penalty. Death penalty
should have use to those who has bigger crime like murdering people and rape someone cause those sin
cannot bring death to life. People who murder or rape someone deserve the death penalty because it’s a
big loss to the family of the victim.

I not really sure it it will stop people committing crimes because it’s their choice once the mind of a person
is determine to murder or do something to the victim no one can stop that because is a choice not a
mistake, once u murder someone you cannot say it’s just a mistake.

6 . From ethical standpoint, is death penalty justified? (10pts)

Yes, it is justified to those victims who got murder, rape and other none human rights, You know why it is
justified? Because you cannot back the death to life and the thing that happen already anyone who has
experience those brutality, abusing and harassment the person in their positions

7. From your own personal view, are you in favor of death penalty? Why or Why not? (10pts)

Yes, for my personal opinion I’m in favor of death penalty and stand for it, especially for those victims and
for those women around who got rape by a guy and been killed, it is also for those people got killed or
murder with no reason or accidentally, even if the killer/murderer has it reason it’s still not valid cause
he/she kill a person in its own. And this is not just a rule for society this is a golden rule by God himself and
death penalty is like justice for those victims who got rape and murder.

The entire midterm exam is 100 points.
