accordance to Jafaru, 2019. The researcher believes that study habits are one of the most

important determinants of a student's academic performance. He stated that having a good study

habits improves ones student skills in studying. We found a positive and significant correlation

between academic performance and study habits, which is consistent with the results of study by

Alimohamadi (2018). Therefore, study habits aims an impact for students. Alimohamadi (2018)

believes that the utilization of study skills and study habits can play a positive role, can have a

big impact in improving the academic performance of students.

Failure in mathematics is one of the major problems of secondary school students in

Nigeria. Students at this level of education are victims of failure in mathematics because they

have a preconceived notion that it is difficult and failures predecessors on this subject. Therefore,

students with bad study habits are in a very bad position. Bad study habits are caused by the fact

that students need remedial classes, fall behind in courses and drop out of school. Developing

good study habits significantly reduces the risk of students struggling academically and not

graduating from college. A case study of a selected high school schools in Uyo Local Board of

Education. 1128 secondary school two (SS2) students with a sample size of 200 respondents

were selected from five public high schools using a simple random sampling method. Data for

the study was collected through a structured questionnaire consisting of two sections (A and B),

Section A has 15 items and Section B has 30 items. Math performance test. A response

coefficient of 0.91 was obtained using the Spearman Brown formula. Collected data were

analyzed using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) and tested at a

significance level of 0.05. The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between
students' library use, study time and students' academic success. Eremie (2019) studied the study

habits of high school students and their academic performance in Rivers State. The study

population consisted of 1500 male and female students in Port Harcourt, Urban Area. A simple

random sampling method was used to select 150 students. GSHS scale (General Study Habits

Scale) was used to collect research data.

In a study conducted in a Rivers State University, Nkpolu-Oroworokwo,Nigeria,

According to Sakirudeen (2020), he stated that the low understanding level in mathematics has

turn into huge concern for our country, parents, educationist and government. The researchers

and educationist have made mad efforts to find out the causes of low achievement in the subject.

In spite of all these efforts the problems still struggle. The study habits of students play a

fundamental role in reveal the standard of education and the students’ academic performance in

mathematics. The problems associated with study habits authority have a major effect on a

student’s academic performances. On the other hand, study habits and force have positive impact

on their academic performances but students reading in an opposed environment might find it

difficult to study which may affect their academic achievements. Furthermore, some students do

not attend classes, do not take down notes, do not do their assignments because the difficult of

mathematics problems. These attitudes may negatively affect their academic performances

especially in mathematics. However, mathematical resilience locates itself in a positive

psychology which addresses mental wellness and makes the students positively perceived that

mathematics is interesting even if it is challenging. Thus, lack of self-confidence, pressured

quizzes and tests are the prevalent factors that cause students’ math problems.
In a study conducted in a public national high school in the Mandaue City Division,

Cebu, Philippines, Mathematics as a discipline is considered as one of the most difficult subjects

among Filipino learners.Students’ performance in mathematics, as indicated by the grades they

achieved, is an affected by various factors. Among the various factors, this study will primarily

deal with students’ affective characteristics, which focus on study habits.Riaz et al (2019), stated

that the studyhabits of the students could play pivotal role in the learning process reflected in the

academic achievement of the students in mathematics. Qualityof education is reflected through

academic achievements which is a function of students’study habits.

In a study conducted at Agusan National High School in Cagayan de Oro. Students have

a very positive attitude toward their study habits when learning Mathematics. Students felt that

studying and learning Mathematics was essential. Students' success and academic growth depend

heavily on their Mathematics performance. Students' study habits in terms of attitudes have an

impact on how they learn Mathematics. The study habits and learning techniques used by

students were found to be important determinants of how well they performed in Mathematics.

Verma et al (2020) stated that study habits are one of those things that have been found very

useful in the academic success of a student. It is one key for a pupil to recognize and increase

expertise in mathematics. These habits need to targeted and practiced at the early stages. There

are higher probabilities that it would be a long-term asset for one.

Abina (2021), from the Davao Region, claimed that both national exams and foreign tests have

indisputable identified low achievement in mathematics. An educator must be aware of and

identify the variables influencing student achievement. Observable research on the mediation

role of students' views regarding academic accomplishment and job aspirations, however, were
lacking. In doing so, it seeks to ascertain the role that attitudes among students play in mediating

between their academic success in studying mathematics and their career aspirations.

On the other study, Miranda (2018) claimed that cognitive talents predict mathematical

proficiency. Other factors that affect students' performance include study habits and psycho-

sociological characteristics. The objective of this study is to use these variables to create a

structural model that best describes collegiate mathematics performance. The study was

conducted using the descriptive-correlational methodology. Using convenience sampling, the

survey included 278 second through fourth year BSED students from the selected state

institutions and universities in the Davao region. Using descriptive statistics, the respondents'

level of cognitive ability, psycho-sociological level, degree of study habits, and success in

college mathematics were evaluated. The structural equation modeling (SEM) method was then

used to assess how well the variables fit the structural model.

The research gap is the research location and its participants as most studies focuses in

college students. The studies on the correlation of academic performance have lack of way of

control and manipulation of related variables. This study aims to bridge the gap of lacking of

informations for the effects of study habits to students’ academic performance. The researcher

has not yet come across a research that discusses about the study habits of Senior High students

in relation to their mathematics academic performance. Thus, it provides urgency in conducting

it.
In this topic, a correlation between student's study habits and to their academic performance in

relates to mathematics subject will be revealed. This research will tackle more of the impact of

study habits to their mathematics academic performance. This will also provide descriptive

analysis of students study habits and how this habits can improve one's study skills. As we go

deeper on this research, readers will benefit on knowing how study habits improves and helps us

know its importance especially in relation to students’ academic performance. Therefore, Study

Habits of Senior High Humss Students in relation to their Mathematics Academic Performance

will be conducted to Grade-11 Humss students.
