QUARTER 3 – MODULE 2
Types of Triangles
Different Kinds of Quadrilaterals
Relates Triangles to Quadrilaterals
PART I.
M4GE - IIIc -16: Identifies and describes triangles according to sides and
angles.
1
Kinds of triangles according to angles
B. Illustrative Examples:
2
Note:
Triangles are classified according to their sides and to their angles.
According to sides, they are the scalene, isosceles, and equilateral
triangles.
According to angles, they are the right, acute and obtuse triangles
Part I
M4GE - IIIc -17: Identifies and describes the different kinds of quadrilaterals;
square, rectangle, parallelogram, trapezoid, and rhombus.
Kinds of Quadrilaterals:
The different kinds of quadrilaterals are based on the number of parallel sides.
a. General quadrilateral – this quadrilateral has no parallel sides.
b. Trapezoid – a trapezoid has one pair of parallel sides. This is also called
trapezium in United Kingdom (UK).
3
There are different types of parallelograms, namely,
1. Square – this is a parallelogram with four equal sides and four right
angles.
2. Rectangle – this is a parallelogram with two long sides and two short
sides and four right angles.
3. Rhombus – This is a parallelogram with four equal sides and two acute
angles and two obtuse angles.
B. Illustrative Examples:
4
Note:
A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides and four angles. The different
quadrilaterals are the general quadrilateral, trapezoid or trapezium, and
parallelogram.
Part I
M4GE - IIId -18.1: Relates Triangles and Quadrilaterals
B. Illustrative Examples:
The triangles area formula is half of the quadrilaterals area formula because a
triangle is half of a quadrilateral.
Quadrilateral 2 Triangles
Note:
.
A quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides and four angles. The different
quadrilaterals are the general quadrilateral, trapezoid or trapezium, and
parallelogram.
Part II. Activities
A triangle is a polygon with 3 sides and 3 angles.
5
Activity I
Directions: Identify the triangle described. Write your answers on your answer
sheet.
_______________________ 1. It is a triangle that has no equal sides.
_______________________ 2. It is a triangle that has three equal sides.
_______________________ 3. It is a triangle that has two equal sides.
_______________________ 4. It is a triangle with one obtuse angle.
_______________________ 5. It is a triangle with one right angle.
Activity II
Directions: Determine whether the description is correct or not for a particular
quadrilateral. Write TRUE or FALSE in your answer sheet.
Activity III
Directions: Tell whether each figure is a triangle or a quadrilateral. Write your
answers on your answer sheet.
1. 2. 3.
6
4. 5. 6.
Key Concepts:
Triangles are shapes with three sides. There are different name
for the types of triangles. A triangle’s type depends on the length of
its sides and the size of its angles(corners)
Quadrilateral- is a polygon with 4 equal sides and 4 angles.
Each diagonal of a quadrilateral divides it into two triangles.
Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answers on your
answer sheet.
