YOUNG MINDS, SCRUTINIZING INTELLEGENCE

LEGITIMACY OF PARTICIPANTS
The BAASCo Tycoons’ Week will be limited only to the College of Business Administration and Accountancy Students’ participation. This will
require a bona fide student enrolled in the College of Business Administration to participate in the events of Tycoons’ Week 2020.

DEBATE CHALLENGE

This open-debate is an opportunity for the youth to be part of a community who aims to enhance communicative skills and critical cognitive skills.

Objectives

MSU-GSC Tycoons Week is advocating an online competition that aims the youth at-large to be trained in the fields of public discourse and

debates towards on our well-timed and significant issues in the status quo. “Debate Challenge” seeks to:

a. Provide the youth an online avenue to think critically, enhance communication abilities, improves cognitive skills, creative problem solving and

increase self-confidence as this platform enables the youth to gain training on different key concepts as a debater;

b. Train the youth in organizing speeches on a short period of time;

c. Engage the youth in online information analysis that fuels their development in their academic research skills;

d. Enable the youth to be prompt in expressing their understanding effectively in any online platforms and to return a strong response to the

arguments with which they disagree; and

e. Encourage the youth to value the issues faced by the status quo which are worthy of scholarly examination and thereby edging them to be

rhetoric enough to become well read and well informed youth.

MECHANISMS:
TIME OF THE EVENT
 The event will commence on the 1st day and 2nd day of Tycoons Week.

BEFORE THE EVENT
 All players must be a bonafide student of Mindanao State University – GenSan Campus
 All players must be enrolled in the College of Business Administration and Accountancy
 Only one (1) team can participate from a department.
 One of the team members should be registered as Team Leader (send through baascomsugensan@gmail.com ; subject – TEAM LEADER
FOR DEBATE. No forms needed, simply send a message).
 Each department must have one (1) team composed of three (3) members.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

The debate will be a bracketing win or loss round. Preliminary round will be conducted during the 1 st day of Tycoons Week then 2nd day will be
the final round, this will serve as determination of winners.

5. Reply Speech
More often than not, reply speakers would just simply talk about how he/ she felt the debate went through and why should the adjudicator
give the win to their side (biased adjudication). Reply speech has no bearing to the adjudication’s decision but will affect the TOTAL TEAM
SCORE. To put it simply, a reply speaker would say, “Adjudicators, make my team win please.”

VII. OTHER PARTS OF SPEECH

 A speech lasts for about 7 minutes
 A healthy speech lasts from 6:40 to 7:20
 Points of information may be given and taken in the course of a speech
- Points of information are those instances when a speaker from an opposing team may be given a short period in order to
pose rebuttals or clarify issues.

ONLINE PLATFORM
CBAA Tycoons Week is creating events that are in most probable means to avoid any violation of Executive Order No. 112, s. 2020. “Debate
Challenge” will be using DISCORD as an online platform to make this tournament possible.
Discord is a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without
video. Discord users can choose to record sessions, collaborate on projects, and share or annotate on one another’s screens, all with one easy-to-
use platform
