TOPIC 5.

1 (Bearing)
Example 1

Determine the power loss due to the friction of a radial bearing with the
inner diameter d= 55 mm, subjected a radial force Fr= 22,000 N. This shaft
rotates at speed of n= 600 rpm.

[Hints:
+ (SKF) the friction coefficient f= 0.0015 in case of radial ball bearing + friction
moment Tf= F*f*(d/2) where F is either radial or axial force]

Solution

Equivalent load is calculated as follows:

Loss power due to friction can be deduced as:

Example 2

Determine the service life (in millions of revolutions and in hours) of a

radial bearing 208 with the number of revolutions n= 650 rpm in the following
cases:

a/ This bearing is subjected a radial force Fr= 3200 N

b/ There are 2 forces: radial force Fr= 3200 N and axial force Fa= 1000 N
Solution

a)- The equivalent load is determined:

The service life in millions of revolutions:

The operating hours of bearing 208 can be deduced:

b)- With the ratio

we have: X= 0.56 and Y= 1.71

The equivalent load can be determined as follows:

The service life in millions of revolutions of the bearing:

The operating hours of bearing 208 can be deduced:

Example 3

a/ Reaction forces

b/ Equivalent load Q (combined load)

c/ Service time in millions of revolutions

d/ Choose the bearing and recalculate the operating time in hours Lh

e/ In case of bearings with short cylindrical rollers are used (bearing 2210, C= 38.7 kN; C0= 29.2 kN);
recalculate the service time in millions of revolutions and in hours.

Solution

a/ Reaction forces are calculated as:

b/ Number of revolutions of the rotating element is deduced from the linear speed as:

Equivalent load Q is determined using the following formula:

V=1 (The inner race is in motion)

c/ Service time in millions of revolutions:

d/

Bearing 210 is chosen with C= 27.5 kN, C0= 20.20 kN

The service life in millions of revolutions is recalculated as:

In the case of bearings with short cylindrical roller are used (bearing 2210, C= 38.7 kN; C0= 29.2 kN),
we have:
