3D Shapes
P-12LM Teaching and Assessment Materials

Course Objectives
a. Students will be able to identify the 2D shapes that compose the following 3D shapes:
rectangular prism, pyramid, cube, cylinder, sphere.
b. Students will be able to identify the following parts of a 3D shape: edge, face, vertex.
Georgia Performance Standards
MGSEK.G.4 Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes
and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts
(e.g., number of sides and vertices/“corners”) and other attributes (e.g., having sides of
equal length).
MGSEK.G.5 Model shapes in the world by building shapes from components (e.g.,
sticks and clay balls) and drawing shapes. MGSEK.G.6 Compose simple shapes to form
larger shapes. For example, “Can you join these two triangles with full sides touching to
make a rectangle.

Day 1 – 2D Shape Review / 3D Shape Exploration

shapes.
B. Work Period
a. Multimedia: Students will watch this introductory video to review prior
knowledge and introduce new content: 2D vs 3D shapes – Mr. B’s Brain
b. Interactive Practice: Students will use Padlet as a collaborative discussion
board to identify and sort shapes as flat or solid.
C. Closing & Assessment
a. Assessment: Students will complete an activity on Seesaw in which they
have to locate, identify and sort a shape as 2D or 3D.

c. Hook / Workshop: Student will log onto Flipgrid to complete the “Which
Shapes Does Not Belong?” for Module 1 - Tuesday
a. Objective: Students will be able to identify the face of a 3D shape.
B. Work Period
a. Multimedia: Students will watch this introductory video to review prior
knowledge and introduce new content: Solid Shapes – Brain Pop Jr.
b. Interactive Practice: Students will log onto ABCya to play Monster Mansion
Match – Shape Math where they can practice analyzing shapes to identify
matching attributes
C. Closing & Assessment
a. Assessment: Students will return to Flipgrid. They will create a 3D shape
using common household materials and describe it using vocabulary from
the lesson.
b. Rubric:
i. Not Yet Demonstrating: is unable to name shape, or identify faces,
edges, vertices.
ii. Emerging: Is able to name shape OR identify one of the following:
faces, edges, vertices.
iii. Develop: Is able to name shape and 1 attribute OR is able to name 2
of the following: one of the following: faces, edges, verticess.
iv. Demonstrating: Is able to name shape and 2 attributes OR is only
able to identify faces, edges, vertices.
v. Exceeding: Is able to name shape and identify all attributes.

Day 3 – 3D Shape Analysis

A. Opening:
a. Hook / Workshop: Student will log onto Flipgrid to complete the “Which
Shapes Does Not Belong?” for Module 1 - Wednesday
b. Objective: Students will be able to identify the edges of a 3D shape.
B. Work Period:
a. Multimedia: Students will watch this introductory video to review prior
knowledge and introduce new content: 3D Shapes I Know – Harry

B. Work Period
a. Multimedia: Students will watch this introductory video to review prior
knowledge and introduce new content: 3D Shapes Song – Numberock
b. Interactive Practice: Each student will get their own slide on Jamboard.
Students will have to circle the vertices on the given 3D shape. Students are
encouraged to do the same with shapes in their learning areas.
C. Closing & Assessment
a. Assessment: Students are using this game-like assessment on Kahoot to
assess how much they’ve learned about faces, edges, and vertices
