Purpose of the study

This section focuses on the unpleasant sense of social contact overload while using OSN and
theorizes the causes and effects of it. As a result, we start by defining the concept. The causes
of social contact overload are then examined, including antecedents related to individual
differences, OSN-specific communication traits, and OSN-specific communication
characteristics. The impact of social contact overload on satisfaction and long-term usage
intention is then covered.
The purpose of this study is to elucidate the drawbacks of communications supported by ICT.
So, a new variable called "social interaction overload" is proposed, which refers to users'
perceptions that social interactions on online social networks (OSN) are dangerous. According
to the paper's theory, users' psychological and behavioral reactions to social contact overload
are mostly determined by their individual, OSN-specific, and OSN-specific communication
features. We identify age, friend count, and communication content as contributing factors of
social interaction overload, which in turn has a direct impact on the two outcome variables
satisfaction and continuous usage intention. The results of an empirical survey with 246 OSN
users validate the assumed effects. The findings also show that perceived utility or perceived
enjoyment has less of an impact on OSN users' contentment than social interaction overload.
