He was a renowned English mathematician, physicist, astronomer and author who is widely considered one of the greatest scientists of all time. Newton established classical mechanics with the publication of his book Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica in 1687, and also made significant contributions to the fields of optics and mathematics through the development of calculus alongside Gottfried Leibniz.
