Sir Isaac Newton: A Biography

Sir Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642, in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. He is
a very well-known scientist, a physicist, a mathematician, astronomer and an author of the book
Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosopy.

Early Years

Two months before Isaac Newton, his father, a farmer, died[ CITATION Sta \l 1033 ] . Isaac
Newton was born prematurely and was a small child[ CITATION Wik \l 1033 ]. His mother later on
remarried to a 63-year-old man by the name Barnabas Smith, and three years later his mother,
moved with his step-father. Isaac was left to his maternal grandparents. There he learned to
read and write[ CITATION Sta \l 1033 ]. Isaac Newton got his education from a boarding school in
Grantham – The King’s School, from age 12 to 17. [ CITATION Wik \l 1033 ][ CITATION Sta \l 1033 ].
After his schooling in Grantham, Isaan Newton went to study in Trinity College, Cambridge in
1661.

The education curriculum on Trinity college was focused on philosophy, logic, ethics and
physics. By that time, Isaac Newton was exploring more than what the curriculum offered. He
started reading works of modern philosophers such as Rene Descartes, and astronomers like
Gallileo and Thomas Street, which led him to read the works of Johannes Kepler. Not long after
a plague caused for the closing of the university. During this time, Isaac Newton began further
research and experiments on existing mathematical theory and related works and developed his
own. He developed the mathematical theory of uniform circular motion. He also discovered the
generalized binomial theorem, and formulated the mathematical theory that is now known as
Calculus.
Scientific Contributions

Sir Isaac Newton is famous from the story of how he was hit by an apple falling from a tree. This
incident led to his inquiry on motion and gravitation. This is now known as Newtons Law of
Motion and Law of universal gravitation that plays a huge part in science. Also, Isaac Newton
was responsible for the discovery of the light spectrum from his prism experiment that reflected
the different colors in white light; this pave the science of modern physical optics [ CITATION
Ric21 \l 1033 ].

Relations to Astronomy

The influence of Rene Descartes, Galileo and other philosophers and astronomers greatly
influence Sir Isaac Newton during his studies in the university and further endeavors. The
modern Astronomy greatly benefits and is in used of the knowledge from Sir Isaac Newton.
These scientific knowledges are Calculus, Newtons Laws of Motion, and the Law of Universal
Gravitation. These knowledges are included in the equation regarding Astronomy and in future
research on the field of Astronomy and astrophysics.
