PERFORMANCE TASK 1 IN EAPP: CONCEPT PAPER

Sir Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642, in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire,
England. He was an English physicist and mathematician who was a pivotal role in the 17th
century Scientific Revolution. Furthermore, Isaac Newton is well-known for his 1687
publication Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, also known as the Principia. This is
where his laws of motion originally appeared. It is one of the most important single works in
contemporary science history. (Westfall, 2023). Isaac Newton was once referred to as “the
supreme genius and most enigmatic individual in the history of science”. He’s a natural
philosopher, physicist, and astronomer.

Newton would have referred to himself as a natural philosopher rather than a scientist.
He had a strong interest in alchemy, religion, and biblical studies (Guicciardini, 2018). Isaac
Newton's work from 1643 to 1727 has long attracted scholarly interest, but only in the last thirty
or forty years has it began to benefit from proper historical treatment. There is now a wealth of
literature illuminating origins and antecedents, conceptual and methodological innovations, and
influences within the relevant sciences on the mathematical, astronomical, and optical writings,
and particularly on the Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Gabbey, 2020).

Isaac Newton is best known as the man who was inspired to develop the theory of gravity
after witnessing an apple from a tree. He devised the three laws of motion upon which all
mechanics is based, namely the Law of Motion (Inertia), the Law of Acceleration (acceleration +
force/mass), and the Law of Action and Reaction. Newton's laws define the motion of things in
an inertial reference frame, which is defined as a system in which an item remains at rest or
moves with constant linear velocity until acted on by external forces. Newton discovered that
movement within such a system could be defined using three basic laws, the law of inertia, the
force acting on an object equals the mass of that object times its acceleration, and there is an
equal and opposite reaction to every action (Gillespie, 2018).

He was regarded as a pivotal figure in the history of science due to his contributions to
the theory of universal gravitation, nature of white light, and calculus. His three laws of motion,
which are the principles of modern physics, led to the creation of the law of universal gravitation
in mechanics. His discovery of the elements that make up white light allowed for the integration

of color phenomena into the study of light and created the foundation for contemporary physical
optics. In addition, he was the first person to discover the infinitesimal calculus (Westfall, 2023).

Isaac Newton was once referred to as “the supreme genius and most enigmatic
individual in the history of science”. He was a natural philosopher, physicist, and astronomer.
Newton has urged everyone who study science, math, and history to predict the next significant
historical event. His methods of investigation and inquiry have made it possible for others to
follow what he discovered. He was persistent and made some of the most important scientific
discoveries ever (Carter, 2016). Isaac Newton is therefore regarded by many as the most
important individual in human history.
