Activity #2 Final Term:

1. What document is considered the Constitution of the World? Did the
Philippines have anything to do with its preparation and approval? Explain
your answer.

The document that was considered as the Constitution of the World is the
US Constitution: 1987-1989. This constitution is known as a "living"
document and known as the supreme law of the land. There is no law that
may be passed that contradicts its principles. And regarding with if the
Philippines have anything to do with its preparation and approval is I
certainly does not know but in my opinion I think it does not have
considering that the Philippines does not hold such great power to have a
say in such matter.

2. What are the functions of UN General Assembly? What proof can you
name to show that the Republic of the Philippines takes an active part in
the work of General Assembly?

The functions of UN General Assembly is the UN's "main deliberative policy

making and representative organ". This active organ of UN has a big say
on decisions on important questions such as peace and security, budgetary
matters and admission of new members. The UN General Assembly
contributes two thirds of the majority to decide on such matters. The proof
that I can name to show that the republic of the Philippines takes an active
part in the work of general assembly is that when a Filipino diplomat Carlos
P. Romulo was elected as a GA president from 1949-1950.

3. Describe the membership of the UN Security Council. What is meant by

the veto of the Big Five in the Security Council?
The membership of the UN Security Council is heir to the tradition of "great
power" diplomacy. The General Assembly elects the ten of the 15 members
meanwhile, there is what we call P5 (China, France, Russia, United
Kingdom and United States). These are the permanent members who can't
be replaced through election because they play as an importance in the
aftermath of World War ll and have a unique role that has evolved
overtime. The veto power of the Big Five in the Security Council means that
the power to refuse in approving or a negative vote of a bill or a joint
resolution and thus prevent its enactment into law. It also serves as a form
of protection or sense of safety where those who betray a permanent
member have the possibility of their efforts facing defeat by their hand. On
the other hand, the UNSC is messed up in maintaining international peace
and stability because of the conflicts and personal interests ( undemocratic
and non-neutral) that lies among the members of the P5 veto power.

4. Under what conditions may be the international Court of Justice take any
action as a judicial body?

The conditions that the International Court of Justice may take any actions
as a judicial body is when the General Assembly or the Security Council
request an advisory opinion on any legal question since all members of UN
are ipso facto parties to the Statute of the International Court of Justice. It's
role is to settle, in accordance with the international law and legal disputes.
