--have read multicultural literature (Native American and Middle Eastern passages), a poem, a memoir written as a short story, an informational text about King Arthur, and this
suspenseful coming-of-age passage. Each were relevant to real life in that they hit topics of various cultures, discrimination, age, overcoming obstacles, personal fulfillment, etc. and
the students were asked guided questions within each so that they might find relation to the texts to the world around them.
