I am Eric de Guia, a filipino. I was born on October 03, 1942 and raised in baguio city.

My father Victor, is an engineer while my mother Virginia, was among the pioneers of

Baguio City, the first elected lady councilor. I was known as "kidlat tahimik" in English

"quite lightning" I was also considered as the “Godfather of Philippine New Wave” and

"Father of Philippine Independent Cinema''. I am a director, screenwriter, producer,

photographer and actor. Before I became a filmmaker, I studied at the university of the

philippines in 1958 until 1963.while I received my master in business administration

from university of pennsylvania's wharton school. And worked as an economist in

France. In 1972, I rejected the former way of life, I then adopted a commune-culture

lifestyle and embraced an anti-Hollywood school of filmmaking. I started my first film,

the "perfumed nightmare" and luckily in 1977 at the Berlin International Film Festival, I

received the FIPRESCI award, an international critics award. With dedication, I've been

consistently producing personal films. Lately in 2018, I was honored to receive the

highest national award given to Filipino artists who have made significant contributions

to the Philippines and the arts, the National Artist of the Philippines. To our young

dreamer there, keep dreaming, keep showing your talent may I become an inspiration to

all of you.
