Introduction:
-Eric Oteyza de Guia known as KIDLAT TAHIMIK
-Born October 3, 1942
-Known as the “Father of Philippine Independent Film”
-Was recognized as a National Artist of the Philippines for Film in
2018.
-A film director, writer and actor whose films are commonly associated
with the Third Cinema movement.
His film “imperfect” is an exemplar of what is worldwide known as
“Third Cinema,”
Introduction
-Kidlat’s work ranges from film
and photography to weaving, free-
style architecture and carved
installations.

-Kidlat is an enthusiastic
advocate of indigenous culture.

-He has designed and built two


imaginative art centres using
local craftsmen and found
materials where local artists and
craftspeople can exhibit their
works.
-His artist café and
vegetarian restaurant Oh
My Gulay in Baguio is a
quirky wonderland of
Kidlat’s imagination.
NOTABLE WORKS OF
KIDLAT TAHIMIK:
•Perfume Nightmare
(1977)- It tells the story of a
young Filipino jeepney
driver from Barangay
Balian, Laguna infatuated
with the ideas of space
travel and the West, who
gradually becomes
disillusioned after living in
Paris.
•Japanese Summers of a
Filipino Fundoshi (1996)-
Tahimik performed himself to
show his own thinking about
the different views of the body
held by the “East” and the
“West.”
•Who Invented the Yoyo? Who
Invented the Moon Buggy? (1979)-
Kidlat Tahimik start a Filipino
space program in the fictional
German town where he lives. His
colleagues are toddlers, and
together they build a rocket out of
scrap metal.
•Orbit 50: Letters to
My 3 Sons (1990-
1992) - Has a three
part video letter to
his three sons and
was filmed to mark
his 50th birthday.
•Why Is Yellow the
Middle of the
Rainbow? (1983-
1994)- The film mostly
revolves around
politics, and it
represents the impact
of westernization on
the Philippines.
• Turumba (1983) – A
local family becomes
virtual slaves to the
“modern” industry.

Introduction:
EDUARDO MASFERÉ
• Eduardo Masferré known as the “Father of
Philippine Photography“
• Born April 18, 1909, in the Mountainous
Province of Sagada. He was born to a Filipino
Mother and Spanish Soldier.
• He documented the everyday lives of
Indigenous people of Cordilleras. His
photographs serve as documentation of their
customary practices and rituals
• Masferré’s photographs have found their way into
exhibitions around the world.The Smithsonian
Institution carries at least 120 prints of his works
for the National Museum of Natural History in
Washington D.C.
•He is remembered for his book on the People of the
Philippine Cordillera Photographs 1934-1956,
which was published in 1988.

AGNES ARELLANO
INTRODUCTION:

-Agnes Arellano was born


in san Juan, Rizal, in 1994,
Agnes Arellano belong to a
prominent family of
architecture.
-She is known as a famous
Filipino sculptor.
-Arellano is best known for making surrealist and life-size
expressionist sculptures primarily in plaster. Her works focus on
feminist issues and show how women are traditionally portrayed by
reinterpreting local myths.

-Arellano’s techniques:
-She choose methods and materials for her sculpture which require a
high degree of spontaneity. Thus, most of her major work are
partially created through direct modeling with plaster, even though
they were later recast into other materials, such as synthetic marble.

Roberto Chabet
-Roberto “Bobby” Rodríguez
Chabet
-March 29, 1937 – April 30,
2013
-”The Father of Philippine
Conceptual Art.”
-He is a follower of Cubism and Daidism which serve as
his guiding principles.

-He’s a curator as well as a professor, he was the founding


Museum Director of the Cultural Center of the
Philippines (CCP) from 1967 to 1970, where he pioneered
the prestigious ‘Thirteen Artists Award.

NAPOLEON
ABUEVA
INTRODUCTION:
-Napoleon “Billy” Veloso Abueva
- (January 26, 1930 – February 16,
2018) was known as the “Father of
Modern Philippine Sculpture”
Through Proclamation No. 1539.
He was proclaimed National Artist
for Sculpture in 1976 when he was
46, making him the youngest
recipient of the award to date.
-Napoleon Veloso Abueva is an artist of
unquestioned power and seriousness.
-Abueva is inspired by a variety of things,
including popular mythology, history, and
everyday life.
