OPPORTUNITIES IN EXPORT IMPORT SECTOR

India’s export share in world trade

• India’s export share in world trade was 1947 - 2.40 %;
• 1980: 0.80% (same was of China also)
• In 1990: 0.13%; this was because of inward looking policy of self-reliance and
exporting only the surplus.
• The balance of payment crisis in 1991 rightly brought about a change in India’s
economic philosophy. Hence trade policy was liberalized in 1991 Given
relaxation in law and rules
• Till 2003 our share in world trade was (0.67%)
• In 2010 share was 1.35% (Double in 7 years)
• In 2017 export share was 1.70%
• Vision 2025 – 5%
