PEOPLE'S FEEDBACK
The survey conducted in 2023 covering the Patna Municipal Corporation area was analyzed on various

fronts. It was observed that the Kankarbagh circle was affected by the floods of 2019 with many people

evacuating their houses to move to a better place. The Kankarbagh Circle followed by Patna City and

Patliputra City suffered more damage than other parts of the city. A survey conducted on 75 people

covering all the circles of Patna Municipal Corporation area has the following feedback in context of

Urban Flooding of 2019.

The above mentioned Table 3.1 represents the responses of surveyed sample. It was observed that

46.67% of population have 25,000 to 50,000 income and 26.67% have 50,000 to 100000 monthly income

and only 13.33% people have more than 100000 income. So, maximum population have averege income

and they had to suffer the financial issues during and after flood.

The above mentioned Table 3.2 represents the responses of surveyed sample. It was observed that more

than of 53.3% of the sample population consider 2019 urban flooding as a severe disaster which greatly

affected many parts of PMC. 40.0% of the sample population residing in Kankarbagh Circle had faced

moderately serious to very serious to very serious situation of flood.

The table 3.3 indicate the losses suffered by the people of PMC during the floods of 2019. There were

losses mainly to the infrastructure with one-fourth of the sample population facing it. The next reported

was physical injuries or health issues contributing about 26.67% of the surveyed populations’ responses.

And 6.66% have died during this disaster.

The table 3.4 indicate the losses suffered by the people of PMC during the floods of 2019. Some of the

population i.e; 46.67% of them left their homes and went to safer place but maximum population i.e;

53.33% of them stayed at their place only. They didn’t move to any other place.

The above mentioned Table 3.5 represents the responses of surveyed sample. It was observed that 40%

of sample population have faced damage to their housing to some extent while 26.67% have suffered

very much damage to their housing. And 13.33% have not suffered any damages.

The above mentioned Table 3.6 indicates the disruption of road lanes during flood. The water logging

resulted in the blockage and disruption of roads. About 46.67% of sample population faced moderate

problems of road. While 33.33% have suffered much problems due to this disaster.

The Table 3.7 indicates that about 46.66% of the sample population didn’t receive proper electricity with

Patna City Circle facing this as a prominent problem. The main reason for disruption of electricity is the

excessive rainfall leading to technical glitches in the system.

The Table 3.8 indicates disruption in flow of mobile network due to the flood. The water logging resulted

in the failure of the networking with weak internet connectivity and irregular telephone networks.

The Table 3.9 above shows the responses of people with respect to the supply of food. Food is one of the

basic necessity of man. Due to flooding, the trasportation was badly damaged leading to the shortage of

food. Above all, the shops too were affected by the water logging.

The Table 3.10 indicates the disruption in the supply of fresh vegetables, fruits, milk, safe drinking water.

Many areas didn’t receive these basic amenities for a couple of days due to Urban Flooding. About

53.33% of the sample population suffered moderate problems in attaining these goods while 26.67%

faced scarcity of these.

The Table 3.11 indicates the Medical Emergency faced by people during the Urban Flooding of PMC area.

The increasing dirty stagnant water lad to the growth of various diseases. About 13.33% of the sample

population faced medical emergency during the floods ranging from diarrhoea to major illnesses.

The Table 3.12 indicates the responses of sample population for the people who provide them

immediate help. It was observed that 40% of the surveyed population accept that the local bodies

worked in providing the facilities in their area in times of need. The local authorities hereby, worked hard

to get over with the ongoing flooding in the locality.

The Table 3.13 shows the view of sample population with respect to the works done by the Government

during the flooding of 2019. Most of the sample population i.e; about 40% were unsatisfied with the

works of Government in their locality. Nearly half of the sample were moderately satisfied but only a

small portion was happy with the work government did during the flood.

The Table 3.14 indicates the view of sample population about the post-flood restoration of essential

services by concerned agencies. According to the 29.33% of sample population services was very slow
and about 33.33% said that it was not so fast. Only few i.e; 13.33% population said that the restoration

process was fast.

The Table 3.15 above indicates the sate of mind of people during the flood. The flood created a sense of

distress 26.67% of the sample population. It also created fear and insecurity in the minds of about 16% of

the surveyed population.

The Table 3.16 indicate the life of people after the foods of 2019. With the same daily schedule of 9 to 5

job, about 60% of the surveyed population have the same busy life with no improvements. Some i.e;

33.33% suffered great losses and their finances deteoriated while 6.67% of the sample population also

saw an increase of income.

Table no. 3.17 shows that crime rate has increased as about 46.66% sample population has confirmed

that. While 40% of them said that the crime rate remain same and only 10% of sample population said

that it has decreased. During and after the flood, the financial issues has increase d therefore, the

crime rate has also increased.
