Q: Think about a time you shifted from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. What task were
you facing and/or what limiting belief did you have about yourself? What happened to shift
your mindset? What was the impact of moving from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

A: I believed I was naturally awful at public speaking and avoided it at all costs. At
class, I had to present a project to a huge group of people. I initially assumed I would
fail because of my “fixed” conviction in my talent.

A confluence of circumstances shifted my perspective:

Learning and Preparation: I put in time to learn about excellent public strategies and
rigorously prepared for the presentation.
Input and Improvement: I solicited and acted on input from mentors and peers. I
knew that practice and learning from mistakes may help me improve.
Optimistic attitude: I actively adopted a more optimistic attitude, reminding myself
that with work, I can progress.

The transition from a fixed attitude to a growth mindset had a big impact. I gave a
good presentation, which enhanced their confidence. I became a more skillful and
confident public speaker over time, which led to new opportunities and personal
growth. This change taught me how embracing a growth mindset may lead to personal
growth and achievement.
