JOB OVERVIEW / SUMMARY


A Planning engineer, is responsible for efficient preparation & effective communication of various
plans* required for project execution, during different phases of it, from design phase till handover.

*The plans that have time, budget, resources planned & loaded in them.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 Preparation of Project Baseline Plan.
 Preparation of Project Revised Plans.
 Preparation of Project Recovery Plans.
 Preparation of Ad-hock, specific detailed plans, for specific purposes & personnel.
 Effective and timely communication of the above plans, to all the stake holders.
 Communication of regular weekly/monthly plan updates of the current plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION: B.TECH IN CIVIL/MECHANICAL/ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

 TOOLS:

 PROFIECIENT IN MS EXCEL
 PROFICIENT IN MS PPT
 PROFICIENT IN MS WORD
 GOOD IN PRIMAVERA P6

 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

 Minimum 4 years of construction experience, in the works of the project


scope.
 Minimum 2 years’ experience in project planning and project base line
submission.
 Minimum 1 years’ experience in project scheduling using primavera.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Baseline Plan
 Ability to understand the project scope of works.
 Ability to understand in detail, all the construction methods, involved with the project
scope of works.
 Ability to see, seek and get information required from different stakeholders(both
internal & external), in timely manner, required for baseline & other plans of the
project.
 Ability to understand the sequence of activities involved, inside each of the works & in
between the works & in between the disciplines & in between different phases of the
project.
 Ability to see the difference between technical work sequence and resource sequence
and do due diligence to both, for efficient sequencing of work; to utilize the time/work
front opportunities available during planning, efficiently.
 In-depth understanding of the resources, namely, various trades of manpower,
machinery & material required for various works, in the project scope.
 Knowledge and ability to arrive at the productivities of various manpower, machinery,
required in the project.
 Knowledge and ability to arrive at the lead times involved with various materials,
required in the project.
 Ability to break down the work structure from a project level to the activity level,
there by arriving at a static WBS, that is most suitable for use, for the project.
 Ability to see and allow enough room for project phase, locational, discipline, sub
discipline and other break downs that may be required to sort the project data, while
finalizing the static WBS and activity breakdown.
 Ability to see the dynamic WBS requirements of project, for efficient data extraction,
usage, communication of the plan, during the course of the project and allow room for
it, in the activity breakdown.
 Ability to plan the works, using both static & linear planning methods.
 Ability to plan the scope of works, using optimum amount of resources, with an
efficient work, resource sequencing, crew sizing.
 Ability to plan a resource levelled plan, with a practical and gradual mobilization, peak
& demobilization numbers, of the resources involved.
 Ability to plan, meeting the cash flow constraints of the organization.
 Ability to plan, around the constraints of the project (from both internal & external
stakeholders).
 Ability to identify the inputs required from all the key stakeholders (both internal &
external), for the preparation of the plan.
 Ability to efficiently communicate, co-ordinate & get the inputs required, from all the
key stakeholders (both internal & external stakeholders) and take them in to
confidence, during the planning process.
 Ability to submit a complete baseline programme, with all its attachments, meeting
the contractual requirements.
 Ability to coordinate with client, make necessary (if any) and get the project baseline
approved.

Revised Plan / Recovery Plan
In addition to the above things under baseline plan,
 Ability to understand the current status of works & the balance works left.
 Ability to understand and ability to take in to consideration, the project resource
constraints both in terms of budget and physical deployment, physical constraints, in
planning the revised/ recovery plan.
 Ability to arrive at the least time extension required (if any), for the works completion,
with least impact on budget (if any), using efficient work sequencing, resource
sequencing, crew sizing, in the revised/ recovery plan.

Plan Communication
 Ability to effectively communicate the specific information in baseline plan, regular
plan updates, recovery plan, to the key stakeholders (both internal & external).
 Ability to define and use custom filters, for effective plan communication in
primavera.
 Ability to generate specific dynamic WBS in primavera, that optimally suits each
respective department, key personnel or any stake holder, or any role, for effective
visualization and communication, implementation of the plan.
 Ability to effectively use, group and sort functionality in primavera, to organize
information that are required for specific purposes and people in the project.
 Ability to use, Layouts functionality in primavera, to pre-save different visualizations,
to save time and have consistency in communication format, for specific and
respective needs and people.
