Drum Inspection Report

Equipment Number: V-211XX A # XXXXXXX

Equipment Name: AV Drum
Date Inspected: April 10, 2010

Inspector: Mary Lou Tanguay

Specific Instructions:

Process conditions indicate that we may have salt deposition on the bottom of this drum. Pay particular
attention to pitting corrosion on bottom half of drum.
1. VT all surfaces and welds for corrosion damage and mapped out to determine life
expectancy/ repair scope
 General corrosion and pitting corrosion was evident along the entire length of the drum with the highest
concentration of attack at the 6 o’clock position and decreasing in severity to the 4 – 8 o’clock positions. Depth
of attack was variable with the deepest damage measured at 1.5mm
2. WFMPI internal shell to boot weld
3. External phased array boot welds, long seam, head and nozzle attachments

Inspection Details:

Shell :
All courses were in good condition with no corrosion or weld attack noted except for the area around the
outlet nozzle (N5). N5 itself was not affected but the shell material adjacent to the nozzle and extending 50
cms radially around the nozzle had excessive pitting. These pits were dense within this area and measured
5mm deep at their maximum. Typical radius was 10 mm. Photo is attached. Repairs were completed
under IWR XXX and shell was acceptable to return to service post repairs.

Head :
Both the north and south heads were in good condition with no corrosion noted. The north head has a 12”
by 12” wear plate welded to it (see notes below). Head to shell welds were in good condition with no
preferential attack noted on the welds.

Water Boot :
AUT on the boot found localized thinning, Directly below nozzle K1A, starting 10 mm below the OD of
the nozzle. Thinned area measures 75mm wide and 50mm top to btm. Nominal is 12mm and remaining
wall is 10.5 mm.

Demister Chamber Section :

No Demister in this drum

Distributor :
No Distributor in this drum. There is a wear plate across from the inlet nozzle. No wear or corrosion was
noted on wear plate, attachment welds or adjacent shell.

Drain Vortex Breaker :

Vortex breaker was intact with no corrosion noted on the breaker or the attachment welds.

Nozzles:
Nozzles were found to be free of corrosion. No pitting noted. N6 (1” LG connection) was plugged with
product but product was removed and no corrosion was noted.
Manways :
Minor needle point pitting found on bottom of manway nozzle from the 5 to 7 o’clock position. Maximum
pit depth was 0.2mm.

Internal Piping Components :

No Internal piping components.

Other Components (e.g. Internal Heater Coils or Supports etc.) :

None

Planned NDE Scope:

None as indicated in Specific Instructions.

Any Repair or Cleaning Requirements:

Vessel required repair under IWR XXX. Repairs were completed and accepted prior to returning vessel to
service.

Recommendations:
Inspect repair area at next opportunity. Coating repairs may be required if damage is evident again at next
interval. External UT may be required for on stream monitoring.

Water boot : Readings are within the corrosion allowance. Map out are area, install a removable section of
insulation clad and monitor online
