Experience using Statistic

In a problem in the engineering world, big data is not spared. So from that, we need science in
processing the data, which is commonly called statistical science. Statistical science is a science
that is concerned with developing and studying methods for collecting, analyzing, interpreting,
and presenting empirical data.

Statistics is very useful for the scientific field, for example, in journal/thesis that has been
found, It used statistics to help solve problems relatedto TVDI (Temperature Vegetation Dryness
Index), TVDI is a drought index determined basedon empirical parameters of the relationship
between surface temperature and vegetation index.Calculation of TVDI index parameters is
based on the relationship of triangle between the index value of vegetation with ground surface
temperature.

Statistical science in this problem is used to determine the temperature threshold value and
linear regression. In determining the temperature threshold value, a temperature calculation is
carried out to determine the mean value. Then the median value is used as a reference in
deciding wet and dry land. After that, I calculate the linear regression for wet and dry land,
then the results from the linear regression were used to calculate the TVDI value. Where in
calculating the value of ground surface temperature using Split Window Algorithm method.
This algorithm takes into account the emissivity value of land cover and water-vapor content
from the study area. The emissivity value used in Land Surface Temperature (LST) calculations
is the mean and different value of the Land Surface Emissivity (LSE) value.

Based on some of the experiences above, it can be concluded that statistics is very useful to
solve some problems in Geomatics Engineering.
