LEARNING PLAN

Lesson: CHANGES OF MATTER Quarter: First Week: 1

Subject/ Level: Science 3 Date:

Transfer Goal
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to show simple changes of matter
through using objects present at home so that in the future, they will know how these changes
affect the nature.
Essential Understanding: Some solids can be changed into liquids. Some liquids can be
changed into solids. Some liquids and solids can be changed into gases. Gases can be
changed into liquids.
Essential Questions: How does matter change from one state to another?
I. Preliminaries
A. Review:
The students will get one object found on their home and tell the class the proper way of using
or handling it.
B. Motivation:
The students will watch a video about changes of matter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=xYU7RSoOZ0U. After that, they will share ideas on what they have understood on the video.
C. APK: The teacher will show pictures about melting, freezing, steam (evaporation),
condensation, and sublimation. After that, students will share ideas about changes of
matter that they have observed in the environment.
D. Focus: Changes in Matter
Important points:
1. Solids can be changed into liquids by heating.
2. Liquids can be changed into solids by freezing.
3. The process of changing liquids into gases is called evaporation.
4. The process of changing solids into gases is called sublimation.
5. The process of changing gases into liquids is called condensation.
II. Lesson Development
A. Presentation of Concepts
Students will know
 Proper Use and Handling of Materials
Students will be able to
 Identify safety precautions in using certain materials.
 Demonstrate proper ways of handling materials.
 Show politeness at all times.

Activity 1: Guided Practice

 The students will classify the picture of materials as poisonous, toxic, flammable or
corrosive.
Broadening of Concepts:
Some chemical substances are useful, but they can also be harmful if not used properly.
The pupils will write the uses and harmful effects that some chemical substances can do to
people. They will do this task on their Science book.

INTEGRATION
a. Ignacian Core/Related Values:
How are you going to help other people to be cautious in dangerous products especially
those who are not aware of it?
b. Social Orientation:
On every pack of cigarettes, there is a warning which reads: “Cigarette smoking is
dangerous to your health.” Should you try smoking? Why?
c. Lesson Across Discipline: HELE
While you were in a grocery store, your mother suddenly told you to separate soap and
detergents from food items. What do you think is the reason behind this?
d. Faith/Biblical passage: Romans 2:6
“God will repay each person according to his works.”

III. Evaluation / Assessment:

The students will answer a Quick Quiz on their Science book.

IV. Summary / Action

The students will be asked to answer the following questions:

 Why should you not take medicines which are not prescribed by a doctor?
 Why should medicines and harmful substances be labelled and stored separately.
 How do we use and handle materials found at home and in school?

V. Purposive Assignment
The students will make a science video showing three (3) ways on the proper use and handling
of materials. This activity is counted as a performance task.
