I. JOB MISSION

The position is responsible for providing quick reference and reader’s advisory
assistance to library patrons. One performs professional work in reference,
collection development, reader’s advisory service or other specific fields.

II. KEY RESULT AREAS

3. Effective public relations and assistance

III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular:

1. Assist patron with their library needs. Provide quick reference, detailed
research, and reader’s advisory assistance. Use information resources in a
variety of formats including print, CD-ROM, online databases, Internet, etc.

2. Develop and maintain library collections of books, magazines, audio-visual


and other materials for easier access and shelving.

3. Classify and put indices to various articles from journals.

4. Compile list of subject bibliographies and indices.

5. Scan newspapers and articles for clippings and assist Head, Public Service in
compiling such clippings.

6. Coordinate with Head, Public Services in implementing special projects


involving library promotion.

Occasional:

1. Establish contact with the faculty and graduate students to keep abreast of
current research and instructional library needs for collection, development
and information literacy.

2. Participate in continuing education such as seminars, trainings and


conferences that enhance professional knowledge as directed.

3. Perform other related duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by


the Chief Librarian and /or Director, Learning Resource Center.

IV. COMPLEXITY OF WORK

Analytical:

Assigned task involves routine or standard procedures but demands recognition


of deviations from accepted routine.

Interpersonal:

Confer with Head, Public Services and Chief Librarian for work instructions and
consultation; coordinate with other library staff in relation to circulation of library
materials.

Communicate and deal with students, faculty, employees and visitors regarding
research and library use

Work Effort (Physical, Visual & Concentration):

Preparation of indices of articles from different journals; compilation of lists of


subject bibliographies and indexes; obtaining relevant newspaper articles;
retrieving and shelving books require physical and visual effort.

Work Condition:

Air conditioned library environment; 100% of the working time at the Reference
Section

Supervision Given:

Related tasks; work methods are well-defined or covered by standard operating


procedure; workload of subordinates are uniform or similar; direct supervision of
personnel is required

General and irregular supervision

VI. JOB SPECIFICATION

Formal Schooling:

A Graduate of Library Science or Library and Information Science with professional


license for Librarians

Experience Required:

At least 2 to 4 years of experience in Library operations

Special Skills Required:

1. Thorough knowledge of library practices, policies and procedures


2. Strong public relations skills
3. Proficient with Microsoft Application, Internet and online searching
4. Excellent written and oral communications
