I. Overview
The aim of this course is to teach students to write a well-organized and unified
paragraph which is the basic unit of any piece of writing. Students will first be taught to
write correct and effective sentences, combine independent and dependent clauses and
observe correct punctuation. Then, students are trained to write a topic sentence and
develop it into a complete paragraph. In addition, students are trained to write different
types of paragraphs like descriptive, example, process, opinion, and narrative.

ENGL. 101 + ENGL. 102
III. Evaluation Plan
Students will be evaluated as follows:
- Participation (20%) that includes doing some exercises or e-learning quizzes on
general information about paragraph writing.

- In-class writing (Midterm Exam, 30%) about one of the rhetorical kinds of
paragraphs covered in the textbook.

- In-class writing (Final Exam, 50%) about one of the rhetorical kinds of
paragraphs covered in the textbook.

- When grading students' papers, different points will be taken into account: ideas,
organization, formatting, structure, and language.

Note: It is worth emphasis that there is no book which can be used to teach
writing. However, any book on writing can be used only as a guide.
