CONJUNCTIONS

A conjunction is a word that joins parts of a


sentences to express the relationship between
the ideas.
A conjunction links words, phrases, or clauses.
EXAMPLES

Would you prefer to travel by air, water or land? (word)


I visited Disneyland in Hongkong and Legoland in Malaysia.
(phrase)
When baby Chyler turns two, we shall tour in Singapore.
(clause)

3. Correlative Conjunctions
COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

Coordinating Conjunctions join individual words, phrases, and


independent clauses that are equal in rank or value.

Examples: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so


SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS
A subordinating conjunction introduces a dependent clause and
indicates the nature of the relationship among the independent
clause and the dependent clause.

Examples: after, before, since, till, whether, although, how, than, until,
as, if, that, when, because, once, though, where, while
CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTIONS

Correlative conjunction always appear in pairs - you use them to link


equivalent elements in a sentence.

Examples: both...and, not only...but also, if...then, either...or, so...as,


though...yet, neither...nor, whether...or, both...and, the more...the less,
EXAMPLES
1. Listening and reading are receptive language skills.
2. Violet was the predominant color in the hall, for it was the
motif of the celebration.
3. After Marco had passed the LET. he became more confident.
4. Gerald had to begin his thesis over again when his files in the
computer were corrupted.
5. Both my mother and my sister worked in the school canteen.
INTERJECTIONS
INTERJECTIONS
An interjection is an exclamatory word added to a
sentence to convey strong emotion. It has no
grammatical relationship to any other part of the
sentence.
An interjection is usually followed with an
exclamation mark. Sometimes, it is followed by a
comma.
EXAMPLES OF INTERJECTIONS
Ouch!
Aha!
Alas
Oh
Hurray!
Wow!
EXAMPLES OF INTERJECTIONS

Ouch! That hurts!


Hey! Bring those up!
Aha! I saw the trick.
Oh no, I forgot that the deadline was today.
The weather here, alas, is worse than I expected.
