Activity 2
1. In the first part of the video, we are introduced to Efren Penaflorida, 2009
CNN Hero of the Year. He compare KB Manalaysay which is his friend and
mentor to a ‘salbabida.’
2. In that comparison, he conveys his experiences that linked him to his
‘salbabida,’ his savior from the cruel world.
3. When Efren Penflorida met KB, he was being bullied and considered as a
loser. But after meeting KB, he discovered his purpose which is to spread
knowledge and positivity despite of poverty, and despite of being young.
4. KB’s kindness affects Efren in a great and good way. And as the time passed
by, they encounter Kesz, which is like Efren before at some point. KB’s
goodness makes a ripple effect to every people he helped. As a result,
those people are now successful enough and always willing to do the same
with the other kids and to the youth.
5. In my own understanding and perspective, the message of the video is to
bring awareness about bullying, awareness that self-love is important,
awareness that revenge is not a solution, awareness about poverty. These
observations got me emotional at some point since I experienced those
happenings. I’m being bullied about my size not knowing I’m now
degrading myself too. We’re not that fortunate when it comes to material
things. I also experienced convincing myself to have a revenge. It seems like
the video’s describing me for about 5 minutes straight. And as expected,
just like how Efren, and Kesz found their purpose, I also found my purpose.
What I Can Do

“Bagyong Ondoy’
Bagyong Ondoy was one of the most strongest typhoon that I’d
encountered. Despite of being at the young age, 4 years old to be exact, I still
remember how much water went inside our house and even how strong the wind
at that time. Being at that age, some may be traumatized by water and strong
winds by now but luckily, I don’t get one. The only thing what traumatized me the
most is the risk that my family would encounter since we have my 7-month old
younger brother. The lights are out at night, the water is still high, enough for it to
make our house occupied in half my father’s height. The strong winds that got me
to think that our roof might be gone anytime soon. I kept looking at the roof at
that time, trying to be guard at some point of my life while watching my younger
brother sleeping peacefully in the bed.
On the next day, as I opened my eyes, I thought the water are now gone
but the strong winds are the only one who left and leave us with its cool and cold
breeze. A bit sad and disappointed at that time but silently wishing that it could
end anytime soon.

“Be aware, and let go the fear”
